“They never say, I love you with all my kidneys. I love you with my liver. They never say, my gall bladder is yours and yours alone. No one says, she broke my appendix.”

I have mixed feelings. The story is imaginative and compelling. There are two storylines, one following Mary Shelley writing Frankenstein, and a parallel thread set in the future. I loved the part about Mary Shelley, and wish the entire book had been written about her. The other thread was less successful. I found the treatment of a transgender character and female characters in that storyline were problematic.

I loved this! A YA biography, at times stretching the line into historical fiction, told in free verse, printed over full page black and white watercolor illustrations. It‘s moody, evocative, and emotional. It does a great job of capturing the often overlooked fact that the woman who wrote the masterpiece we still regard was the same age as the target audience for this book, and shows what her life was and where that masterpiece originated .

Kenyazero Wow! This book sounds like it has a lot to offer! 😮 3mo

I've always known that Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley was amazing, but now I admire her even more. This no-nonsense biography may be a little dry in its style, but it is very well researched and attempts to separate fact from rumour. It describes Mary's strength and how she was able to deal with the many tragedies life dealt her, explains the seeming controversies behind her attitudes, and draws the portrait of an exceptional figure. Great read.

Amazing! 🤩

I can't sing enough praise about this book. It is written in free verse with gorgeous illustrations on every page. The way the words and the graphics come together are flawless.

I borrowed this from my library, but I will definitely buy myself a copy for my shelves.

There are parts of Frankenstein I wish were written differently; it‘s apparent that Shelley was an inexperienced writer. But the mythology, parable, metaphor she created is superb and still holds up after 205 years.

The text of this annotated version follows the 1818 edition with the 1832 edits, along with other drafts, within the annotations. Klinger does a fantastic job covering all the bases including popular culture, academia, and much more.

Excited to start my day with this novel about Mary Wollstonecraft and her daughter, Mary Shelley. #TBR #historicalfiction #cofffeeandbooks
I have read & studied both women‘s works and am fascinated with their courage to publish their ideas that were way beyond the thinking of the times they lived in. Both actively read today. #20in4 #readathon

Ah what a dark and creepy story. I love this edition. The images really bring out the story. Classic horror brought into full colour. 4* #Scarathlon #TeamCryptKeepers @LiseWorks
