Early last year a friend of mine was getting his mother‘s house ready to sell, and he recruited several friends to help him. There was a lot of stuff! Some went to Goodwill, some went to the dump, and some went home with his friends. I got some wrapping paper, a step stool, and this book about local gardens.

#WindsOfMarch Day 6: #FlowersOnCover. I like how the formidable artist Frida Kahlo has been humanized even more through Anholt‘s story: Frida‘s tenderness towards Mariana; how she told her confidences, even those that are not ordinarily told to a young girl. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-j59

I like the story as well as writing style of Lahiri. I love her vivid description & development of characters. But the story was too lengthy. I enjoyed the part set in India but the later half of the book was a tiresome read. Communist activity background was interesting. Overall it‘s in between pick & so-so read 3🌟/5🌟

It was read in 2020 as a part of #readingwithmaja #November prompt. #flowersoncover

Cinfhen Gorgeous edition/ my cover was certainly not that beautiful 3y

flying_monkeys Dang, I almost picked it up b/c the author blurbed a memoir I read last month, The Magical Language Of Others. Such a bummer, that cover got me! 4y
OriginalCyn620 Pretty cover! 🌸 4y

TheSpineView @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620 Sad that the story didn't live up to the book.😔 4y

Little Women | Louisa May Alcott
post image

I was 7 the first time my grandmother read Little Women to me. Since that day I've read this book more than any other. It is where I return when the world robs me of my joy of reading, or when I need to be reminded of the unbreakable bond we can form with those we love. Because sometimes in life we just need a good book to make everything okay again.

Do you love Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally? If so, you will love this book. Told mostly in dialogue, the two actors describe how they met and how they have made their relationship work. They are pretty much the most adorable couple on the planet. This book isn‘t literary genius but it left me with a smile on my face. I laughed many times and came to love them even more. Comes out October of this year.

JenP @britt_brooke I think I have your address so will send it on to you today or tomorrow depending on when I get to the post office. BTW there was one page ripped out (I‘m assuming the publishers did this before handing them out) so one chapter has a final page removed 😥 (edited) 6y

Every single one of us needs to read this. And by “us” I mean both women and men.

The author‘s childhood was crazy. But more than that, this story makes women‘s pain a real thing. It‘s about how getting pain treated is not simple. The story is universal, therefore a little depressing, but mostly inspiring. Norman‘s writing is excellent!

riversong153 I loved this!! It was amazing. 6y
Lizpixie After suffering from severe endometriosis since I was 13, I can tell you that women‘s pain is dismissed far far too easily. A gynaecologist told my mother when I was 16 I needed a shrink because I just wanted attention. She never believed my pain again, even when I was throwing up and clawing at the wall to try and get away from the pain. #myuterusistryingtokillme 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Lizpixie Oh my friend, that‘s so difficult to live with. You‘d find plenty to relate to in this book. 💕 6y
mrozzz And I need to finally get to this one! Uterus is a Feature has more of a business focus than a personal/medical one. 6y
DarcysMom @Lizpixie I am *so* sorry no one believed you. Every story I hear reaffirms how lucky I was that my primary doc and gynecologist believed me when I said something was wrong. 6y
