This book was very different from what I expected, but not in a bad way. You don‘t get the detective‘s pov until close to the end of the book, but I think it gives more room to explore the characters and their motivations. It did calm the suspense down some, but the mystery was still a good one, with a side of environmentalism that still hits today. I enjoyed it, and I‘d definitely read more in the series.

This was a great palate cleanser. A police-procedural, and book two in the DCI Ryan series, this kept me reading and guessing all the way. Loved the Northumberland setting. I‘ll confess to being a little confused with the way the ending turned out and disappointed that one major plot development wasn‘t wrapped up. I guess in that respect the trick to get me reading the next one worked! 👇

JillR Poor Sycamore Gap and it‘s now-felled tree. We had one of our best family walks along an 8-mile stretch of Hadrian‘s Wall to Housesteads Fort via Sycamore Gap a few years ago. There are probably better police-procedural books in the genre but I do love that this series is set in an area we‘ve spent some great holidays in. 3mo

Sally Urwin is a 4‘ 10” former corporate marketer who became a farmer‘s wife when she married Steve a sheep farmer based in Northumberland) and started writing a blog recounting her experiences. This entertaining book that reinforces how difficult farming is both physically and emotionally (made worse by the perilous economics within the industry) is based on some of Urwin‘s blog entries and tracks a year of living on the farm.

Getting Kindle Unlimited for 3 months, and going all in. I have chosen the series I‘ll devour. This‘ll get me through winter 🥶 ❄️ I think I need to read 64 books in total to finish these series 😁

jenniferw88 Love Holy Island, but I haven't got any further in the series yet 😂 The Angel's Mark is on my TBR, too! 5mo
Tove_Reads @jenniferw88 Awesome! I have never read a single one, but @andrew65 says they‘re great, so will finally start reading the series. The Angel‘s Mark sounds really good! Should start reading these books early next week (edited) 5mo

First book in an older series by Ann Cleeves, the Inspector Ramsay Series. This was written in 1990 and was much shorter than her more modern series.
You could certainly see the talent developing in these books and it was an enjoyable read.

Number 3 in the Vera Stanhope books - I am so loving this series!
Spent the weekend at a friend‘s holiday house in Mangawhai which is about 90 minutes north of Auckland. This is the sun shining on the estuary as we took a morning walk. Didn‘t get much reading in but lots of walking, buying artisan products at the market and too much wine and cheese! ☀️❤️ #winterweekend

andrew61 You can never have too much wine and cheese Paula. Lovely photo. 10mo
