Another winner from Ann Cleeves. Vera is as grumpy and insightful as ever, and the story is compelling. I want to jump right into the next one, but I have book club selections to read! #serieslove2025

When I did my journal #wrapup for March, I remembered I also helped me friends find their new cats. A good development, but it did cut into my reading time.
In any event, here‘s a more realistic #serieslove2025 plan for April. Four books instead of eight. 🤣
After a little trip to Panem, I‘m back in Northumberland with Vera. I spent most of the afternoon washing the bedding and reorganizing my bookcases. As usual, a little tweak turned into an overhaul of half the shelves. It‘s good to just sit and read and eat chicken with snow peas. #hyggehourreadathon
That Maryland game was a little stressful, so I‘m going to chill out with some murder and Vera. #hyggehourreadathon
I‘m a big fan of the Ann Cleeves Vera series (although I do like the Shetland series even more). I really like how unapologetically grumpy and terse and fixated Vera is. I‘m almost finished the tv series as well, which differs from the books while still retaining the heart of who Vera is.
Number 3 in the Vera Stanhope books - I am so loving this series!
Spent the weekend at a friend‘s holiday house in Mangawhai which is about 90 minutes north of Auckland. This is the sun shining on the estuary as we took a morning walk. Didn‘t get much reading in but lots of walking, buying artisan products at the market and too much wine and cheese! ☀️❤️ #winterweekend
Still slowly making my way through this series. I have liked each book more as I get to know Vera better. I do miss the Shetland setting of the Perez series but I am becoming a fan.
Julie Armstrong comes home after a night out and finds her son dead in the bathtub with flowers scattered over the water. He was strangled, not drowned. DCI Vera Stanhope investigates.
More like TV Vera than the earlier books.
Another cleverly written outing with Vera. I kept changing my mind about the murderer and still got it wrong.

I found the plot of this one just a little bit too weird for my tastes in some way...it seems a little more novelistic than I recall the first two books being. But I like Vera as a character and the way this series is told, so I would just call this one "less good". And I have requested the next book in the series already ?

Walked 2miles this morning😃 staying hydrated.
Later stopped at Starbucks for a short read while waiting fir my son. This is the Vera Stanhope series. I am so enjoying this querulous, very human detective, portrayed with warts & all. Sometimes her behavior does not make me like her in the moment but somehow, she has my sympathy. This is #3 in the series.
1) potato chips!
2) a weekend on Martha‘s Vineyard to attend my nephew‘s wedding.
3) tagged book
4) it‘s late, so any Litten who is still up!

Getting my Vera fix! Feel like I haven‘t had time to give this a proper reading! Also...I feel so guilty! I‘m trying to economize and about 30 minutes ago, I just bought the Kindle Oasis. Should be here Friday. Kind of already having buyer‘s remorse because I own a Kindle Voyage and it works perfectly! I was just honestly sold on Audible and the waterproof feature. Sigh. No self-control what-so-eva!
I'm just loving these Ann Cleeves books. They are such a quick easy read, perfect for wind down nights after a busy work days. Love the Vera character, I'm going to try and watch the TV series after I've finished all the books 📚.
I watched my first episode of Vera last night and felt I had to try one of the novels straight away - sometimes I need a face to the character and I loved Brenda Blethyn's portrayal. Very much enjoying the book too!
