I'm so glad I finally read this book. It's one of those I knew of but didn't really know what it was about. But the story was so moving and I enjoyed the unique writing style. I'm excited to see the new movie, hopefully I will get to the theater soon
Thanks again @TheBookHippie for hosting the #PurpleReadAlong and giving me the incentive to read this!

Anyone have a quote that stuck with them ?

Also who is headed to the movie ???

@Deblovestoread @Librarybelle @JamieArc @vonnie862 @peanutnine , @reading.rainb0w

vonnie862 The one that stuck with me: I'm pore, I'm black, I may be ugly and can't cook, a voice say to everything listening. But I'm here. 4mo
vonnie862 I saw the 1985 movie 2 days ago and I cried like a baby. I plan to watch the new movie next week. 4mo
TheBookHippie @vonnie862 I plan to do the 1985 today -Kleenex ready!! I‘m going next week too! 4mo

TheBookHippie @vonnie862 But I‘m here. So powerful. 4mo
peanutnine I wanna watch the 1985 movie in the next few days while I'm off work. And I'll probably see the new version with my partner after the new year 4mo
Librarybelle Not a specific quote, but just the power behind the words. There‘s so much pain in the narrative, much suppressed because Celie had to suppress pain, but then the power of love and hope. The whole book is very impactful. 4mo
Deblovestoread “Everything want to be loved. Us sing and dance and holler, just trying to be loved”. I plan to watch the older version next week and will likely wait for the new one to stream. 4mo
TheBookHippie @Librarybelle This book stays with you that‘s for sure. 4mo
TheBookHippie @Deblovestoread ♥️ the power of love. 4mo

This was a re-read for me and I still love it. So much heartache for Celie but I loved how strong she turned out to be. Now I need to muster up the strength to rewatch the 1985 movie and watch the new one coming out.

vonnie862 I love Celie's character. I highly appreciated her a lot more with this second read! She was a survivor and an incredibly strong woman! 4mo

Whew this section was A LOT 🤍

What struck you?

@Deblovestoread @Librarybelle @JamieArc @vonnie862 @peanutnine , @reading.rainb0w

Next week I‘ll open it up to whole book again for ppl needing to catch up or anyone who wants to discuss before movie watching 💜💜💜

Librarybelle I think Celie‘s conviction that she knew Nettie was still alive. Her determination to keep the faith in that she would see Nettie again. 4mo
vonnie862 1. I was proud of myself that I held it better together with this read (I sobbed when I first read it) 2. Though I didn't rate it as high as my first time reading it, I still love this book. 3. I can't wait for the new movie! 4mo
Deblovestoread I am so glad to have finally read this book…and kicking myself for not reading it sooner. Gave me all the feels. 4mo

peanutnine I enjoyed this so much more than I expected, just because I didn't know much about it going in. But it was so lovely and such a great story of perseverance. Thank you for leading this @TheBookHippie 4mo

Nettie
Samuel
The children
Gibraltar
They didn‘t sink
And Celie knew it

What did you think of their stories…

@Deblovestoread @Librarybelle @JamieArc @vonnie862 @peanutnine ,

Librarybelle I think it‘s beautiful that they found their way back to each other! 4mo
vonnie862 I loved the stories, though I'm not sure I liked the idea of Nettie marrying Samuel. I'm glad it worked out for them but I think it's weird. Almost disrespectful to Corrine's memory. 4mo
vonnie862 @Librarybelle I agree. It's beautiful the sisters found each other again. 4mo
Deblovestoread My heart sank with the sinking of the boat. It seemed like the final cruelty. But Celie knew better and never gave up,hope. 4mo
peanutnine I love that they found each other in the end! The stories were so interesting and I thought it was great that Celie was able to learn so much from them about the world 4mo

The house, store and land is Celie‘s
Wow

Shug

Mr_______

This section always blows my mind.

Thoughts???

Librarybelle That was a shocker to me! But, Celie deserves something good after an entire life of constant negativity and violence. 4mo
vonnie862 What an a$$ for the step-dad in keeping everything away from Celie and Nettie, but I'm glad that it went back to them. Though I'm not a big fan of Albert, I am glad he turned his life around and tried to make ammends. 4mo
See All 9 Comments
vonnie862 And Shug...I'm not surprised at her behavior but I really disliked how she expected Celie to still be there and wait for her. How does that make Shug different from other men that mistreated Celie? 4mo
Deblovestoread I agree with @vonnie862. So disappointed in how Shug handled her infatuation with the 19 yr old. And just yuck! 4mo
TheBookHippie @vonnie862 right??? Same old troupe younger shiny toy … let me play I‘ll get back to you later when I‘ve nothing left 🤮 4mo
TheBookHippie @Deblovestoread 🤮🤮🤮😵‍💫 4mo
peanutnine @vonnie862 definitely wasn't a fan of Albert but it was nice that he became a friend to Celie when she needed it most, and that he really seemed to want to change. I love that he took up sewing with her 4mo
peanutnine @Deblovestoread very disappointed in Shug. And it was heartbreaking that Celie blamed herself for being away so long. No excuse 4mo
