Something Shady | Pamela Morsi

Rich with Edwardian detail but kind of meh next to Morsi's other books, with too much focus on tiresome teenagers. Nice slow burn romance though. (If you can call it then when one person has been secretly in love for 17 years!) Props to Morsi for finding a way to keep us from worrying about her teen boy character in the upcoming war.

I think this will end my #BacklistReadathon ; can't have too much Morsi all at once!

A great read that helped me finish #PromptMaze Q4. Yay!

@TheAromaOfBooks BTW, I think I missed the post about the new Q1 maze, can you please send it to me? I love them mazes 😁

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! Sadly, I have not created a new maze for this year!! Instead, I've been doing the #BookChain challenge I created on StoryGraph - https://app.thestorygraph.com/reading_challenges/05a07226-a7e1-4cc7-9874-b3aca53... - I may try to do another PromptMaze later this year, though!!! 3w
claudiuo That sounds great! I was worried I missed the Q1 maze but I like StoryGraph challenges, I joined like 9 or 10 of them, I'll join yours too. Thanks for letting me know! 3w
claudiuo @TheAromaofBooks Love the #BookChain challenge prompts. Third one gave me some trouble, a bit too specific but I have so many books on my TBR that I found a book that will work. Thanks again for mentioning it! 2w
TheAromaofBooks I'm glad you like it!! It has a similar vibe to the prompt maze. I'm curious to see how long it takes me to complete the chain!! 2w

Garters | Pamela Morsi

Pickpick

Alternate cover. 😁

One of those Big Smile books. Dirt poor Esme Crabbe sets her sights on town storekeeper Cleavis and through a combination of sheer persistence and a timely leg flash wins his heart. But can he ever be happy with a woman who's not a proper lady? Yes, absolutely! The small town Americana setting and Cleav's scientific interests are lovingly detailed and absurd situations keep you laughing despite second hand embarrassment.

willaful #PromptMaze Someone gets a fresh start.

#PromptMaze 2-5 Words in Title. Am I ever going to get to the end of this thing? 😱 Also for the 2023 #LGBTQBookBingo “Fancy Wear“ square.

A fairly faithful, creatively modernized retelling of Sense and Sensibility, which is more about grief and adjustment than romance. Most of the characters are more likable and relatable than in the original, particularly the faithless older brother and Lucy (here, Lucian.)

Or The Gingerbread Man's revenge. ;-)

#PromptMaze: title begins with 'A' Also my #DoubleSpin book

Just delightful. This reminded me of the fantasies I loved when I was a kid, in which children discover they're so much more than they thought they were. But it also has a few choice words for the idea that children should be responsible for saving the day.

@TheAromaofBooks

Faranae I loved this, and I still can't believe traditional publishers took a pass on it as too dark and scary for the target age (have they read Darren Shan?!). 4w

#PromptMaze : So-so.

Such an interesting concept, but with no real strategy behind it to carry the stories.

#PromptMaze Third person, past tense.

An enjoyable collection of Christmas set romance stories. Kelly's is maybe a bit over the top, but I love her introspective-but-not-emo style.

A Garter As a Lesser Gift | Aster Glenn Gray

#PromptMaze Cover Meh. I mean, it's okay... Also works for #ISpyBingo - leaf on the cover. Oh, and 2023 #LGBTQBookBingo for mythology!

A pretty faithful retelling of “Gawain and the Green Knight,“ set during WWII, which seems designed primarily to give the story a happy, romantic ending. Gray's prose and characterizations are beautiful, as always, though only Gawain and his friends particularly interested me.

Heartstopper Yearbook | Alice Oseman

#PromptMaze : A pick

This won't be remotely interesting if you don't love Heartstopper, but then, who doesn't love Heartstopper? This has a bit more about the characters and some insight into the artist's process. I particularly liked the AU drawings of her characters in different settings. Kinda want a poster of Medieval Nick and Charlie.

Mehso-so

Kalfus's dystopian world in which civil war has caused many Americans to become unwanted refugees in other lands is thought-provoking and disturbing. However, I just couldn't latch onto any of the characters and found the plot rather plodding.
