Finished this a couple of days ago (and with it, finished #poetrychallenge2018! Yay! Loved reading poetry throughout the year, and ended on a strong note as this is my favourite of all the ones I read).

I held off reviewing this cause I didn't know how yet, but I still don't. So... I loved this, it's my favourite sort of poetry. I'll be getting my own copy to revisit, and checking out the rest of Vermette's work. And that cover! So gorgeous.

Crazeedi I love this cover! 6y

Can anyone doing the #poetrychallenge2018 answer a couple of questions for me, please?

- Is it just reading one poetry book a month?
- Who is the organizer?
- Is there going to be a 2019 challenge?

The reason I'm asking is that I was planning on doing my own poetry challenge next year, but if I can join in with something other people are doing that would be a lot more fun.

TheSpineView The best person to ask is @lazydays. She is the poetry guru! I bet she can answer your question. 6y
TEArificbooks I think @Natasha.C.Barnes is hosting #poetrychallenge2018 and it was read one book a month. Idk if she has plans for doing one next year. 6y
GondorGirl @mdm139 @TheSpineView Thanks for the info AMA for tagging people who might be able to help. I'm looking forward to expanding my reading next year. 6y

TK-421 Yes, as @mdm139 said @Natasha.C.Barnes is host of #poetrychallenge2018 but she stopped posting several months ago so I don't expect she'll be organizing a 2019 challenge. @TheSpineView mentioned @LazyDays who hosts the #PoetryMatters photo challenges. They're an awesome way to encourage reading poetry while searching for a poem that fits the daily word! If anyone hears of a 2019 poetry reading challenge, I'd love to participate. 6y
LazyDays @TheSpineView @TK-421. Thank you!💗😘😘 I would love yo do a poetry reading challenge. I was thinking of doing something like a photo challenge but with the poet. But this next month all I've done is another daliy word prompt. If you are going to do anything I'd love to join!😊 you can email me also if you'd like. Lazydayslitsy gmail. If you would like any assistance 😊😊💗 6y
TheSpineView @LazyDays I would be up to helping with a poetry reading challenge. I loved doing the photo challenge. My email is lisa@thespineview.com 6y
LazyDays @TheSpineView thank you! If I do end up doing something, I'll let you know😊 6y
VioletBramble I was planning to continue reading one book of poetry a month in 2019. I've read a poetry book monthly for nearly a decade now. Do we really need an organizer? Natasha hasn't posted since March 2018 and many of us continued with the challenge all year. The only rule is to read 1 book a month. Is anyone with an app that makes collages/quotes willing to make a post announcing #poetrychallenge2019 @TheSpineView @LazyDays @TK-421 @GondorGirl 6y
GondorGirl @VioletBramble I'm game to just use the #PoetryChallenge2019 tag and not have an organizer or anything. I mostly just want to build myself accountable and actually do it this year! 6y
TheSpineView @VioletBramble Myself and @LazyDays have been discussing how to proceed with a poetry challenge 6y

From Blackberry Eating

...and as I stand among them lifting the stalks to my mouth, the ripest berries fall almost unbidden to my tongue, as words sometimes do, certain peculiar words like strengths or squinched or broughamed, many lettered, one syllabled lumps, which I squeeze, squinch open, and splurge well in the silent, startled, icy black language of blackberry eating in late September.

On this snowy morning near the East river I happened upon this poem in my current poetry read.

from: The River That is East

A man stands on the pier
He has long since stopped wishing his heart were full
Or his life dear to him
He watches the snowfall hitting the dirty water
He thinks: Beautiful Beautiful
If I were a gull I would be one with white wings
I would fly out over the water, explode, and
Be beautiful snow hitting the dirty water.

llwheeler @Cinfhen You know, there wasn't a single dud in the books I read for this challenge! Several might make it onto my favourites of 2018, but one of the top ones was Red Threads (lgbtq+ prompt), excellent read for fantasy lovers 6y

My planned reads for December. It's going to be a busy month so I'm keeping expectations low. The Kinnell is my December #poetrychallenge2018 book. The Stranger Things book is my most anticipated book for the month. I'm also excited that my Funko Pop of Mike (Snowball Dance) came in the mail yesterday- 2 days early.
Now I'm going to open my #harrypotteradventcalendar pop for tomorrow and go to bed. Good night! 💤

I forgot to post my November #poetrychallenge2018 book
This amazing book is an inner city coming of age story told in verse. I read the print version. I imagine the audiobook must be even better. Recommend for fans of Slam poetry.

Almost done #poetrychallenge2018! Only 1 more to go. I enjoyed both of these in very different ways. I learned a lot from the WWI collection, and it was good to read beyond McCrae. Wide range of poems, from the celebratory and patriotic to the personal and devastating. And Lorna Crozier...this is my 2nd time reading her poetry & I find it fascinating how I really love about half of it, and just don't get the other half. Often within the same poem.
