A Woman in the Polar Night | Christiane Ritter

Pickpick

This is the extraordinary true story of a woman who joins her husband in the Arctic and lives in a primitive hut for a year, absolutely falling in love with the polar region and with the wild lifestyle. She has such an engaging personality and writing style. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tamra Can‘t wait to read this one! 2mo
Suelizbeth @Tamra I didn‘t expect to love it so much! Enjoy! 📚❤️ 2mo
Cathythoughts Sounds good. Stacked 2mo
Suelizbeth @Cathythoughts It was written in 1933, but it doesn‘t read that way. 📚❤️ 2mo

My partner loves Fred‘s books. Fred is a French woman so this is a translation. It took me a while to get into the story. Sorting out the French names in my head. A bit quirky and an ending I did not see coming. Glad I kept reading.

Bailedbailed

I had to bail after the first couple chapters. Horrific details on dog death & suffering.

I just can‘t. Huskies are *dogs*! They want what all domesticated dogs want: Loving care, good food, comfortable rest & companionship with their humans.

They deserve that. Give them that, not this miserable existence. 💧💧💧

AnnCrystal 🥺😢🙏...glad you bailed... 4mo

The Runner | Peter May

Pickpick

The Runner is book 5 in Peter May‘s China Thrillers series. It‘s another fast-paced thriller that kept me turning the pages! Li Yan and Margaret Campbell are back in China, investigating the suspicious deaths of several top athletes. I enjoyed the mystery, but the resolution felt a little too neatly packaged. Despite that, if you‘re a fan of a good, suspenseful mystery, in an international setting, it‘s worth picking up. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/ 5 (3.5/5) ❤️📚

It's been a while since I was in the parisian world of commisaire Adamsberg, the enigmatic parisian detective who relies on his intuition. In this one, a crime from his childhood obsesses him with murder by stabbing with a trident. The plot takes him to Ottawa, where crimes follow him. Enjoyable series 3* and will read next at some point.

Catching up on the weekends reading- this was my #doublespin for Aug and I found it absolutely riveting! Probably not for everyone but I found it genuinely suspenseful & also enjoyed the extracts from various diaries of those on the original Endurance expedition!

TheAromaofBooks Ooooo I am definitely going to get a copy of this for my husband! He and my dad and my brothers and my grandpa literally all took turns reading Endurance last year and they all were so into it that I didn't even bother reading it myself because every time I saw any of them they started telling me more about it 😂 7mo
bekakins @TheAromaofBooks amazing! He will definitely enjoy it if he was interested by the original expedition story! 7mo
