My first novella by Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez! Gifted writer, his sentences are poetry! This tale begs readers to consider the distinction between fantasy & reality may be hazy. Can we really know the truth? How do we account for what we cannot explain? Some people will find answers in science, others in religion, & perhaps some will admit to the uncertainty of life. #ReadingAroundtheWorldChallenge #LetterO #LitsyAtoZ #ReadHarder
batsy I read this when I was a teen when it first came out but can't remember a thing 😳 I think I read it at a time when I couldn't appreciate his style and your review makes me want to revisit it soon. 8y
Cinfhen It wasn't the easiest book to read, it's probably meant to be read in Spanish @batsy but it's worth the "effort" (edited) 8y
quirkyreader I read this one in Spanish and English at the same time when it came out. And parts of it have stuck with me. 8y

JenP This sounds really good. I do love his writing but haven't read this book. I'm wishing I had time to read another but it's taking me a long time to read my current book. Love the graphic! 8y
Cinfhen @JenP where's our next reading destination? Do I need to wait until June to begin? 8y
Cinfhen That's amazing @quirkyreader which language is your native one? 8y
JenP @Cinfhen Thailand. They are scheduled by month but you are welcome to read at whatever pace you like - you'll just miss out on recommendations by other readers. 8y
Cinfhen Thanks @JenP I don't think I've read much set in or by a Thai writer! I'm looking forward ❤️ 8y
quirkyreader My first language is English because that is the one that everyone used to communicate outside the home. My second is Spanish but I always get odd looks when I speak. My accent is more European/South American. Most of the Spanish speakers here are from Mexico and Central America. But different places different accents. An the words I use are different. And I have to be careful sometimes because different words mean different things. 8y
minkyb Lovely review. 8y
Cinfhen That is so fascinating @quirkyreader it's true how dialect and accents can alter words and meanings! Thanks @minkyb not sure I would want to read more by this author, it was pretty dark and a lot of philosophical prose. But I'm happy I had the opportunity to complete a book by an author I wasn't familiar with. 8y
Andrew65 @Cinfhen How does the #ReadingAroundTheWorldChallengeWork ? Is it where the author is from or where the books are set? Is there a timeframe? 8y
