Day 7 - #Scatter #ReallyRandomFebruary
#Scattered #GaborMateMD

A lot of people do not believe ADD is for real. It runs rampant in my family so I have experienced it first-hand.

KathyWheeler I believe it‘s real (my son has it), but I also think there was a point where it was being over diagnosed — kids were labeled as ADD who were just active. I don‘t think that happens so much anymore. (edited) 5y
EadieB @KathyWheeler I believe you are right and that did not benefit the ones who really had it. 5y
MyNamesParadise I have the inattentive type and wasn‘t diagnosed until after college, but it really would‘ve benefited me if I‘d known sooner! 5y

EadieB @MyNamesParadise That‘s a real shame! ADD can definitely do a number on your self-esteem! 5y
KathyWheeler @EadieB No, it didn‘t. I think it hurt people who really had it because so many people believed it wasn‘t real. 5y
Amandajoy Yep, I was diagnosed last summer... at age 38. It‘s definitely real and it‘s not always little boys running crazy who have it. 5y
Eggs I‘m tagging @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks and @OriginalCyn620 for their prompt ❤️ 5y
EadieB @Amandajoy So what are your symptoms? I‘m just wondering if it‘s pretty much the same for everyone. My daughter for instance cannot organize her thoughts. She wanted to be a teacher but ended up as a teacher‘s aide because it was easier for her. She is always saying, “I need to regroup.” She watches a lot of TV and says that it relaxes her. She says that caffeine calms her down. She tells me that I never taught her to cook but she could not focus. 5y
OriginalCyn620 Thank you @eggs and I believe it‘s real. 😊 5y
EadieB @OriginalCyn620 Oh my! It must be my ADD that I tagged @Eggs instead of @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks and @OriginalCyn620 Sorry about that! 5y
Amandajoy My thoughts are scattered, I struggle with focus and remembering things. I also have a hard time starting and following through on stuff. I‘m not sure if coffee calms be down, but it doesn‘t seem to have much effect on me and I‘ve been a habitual coffee drinker for the last oh, 25 years or so. I‘ll have to remember that “I need to regroup” I think that could be a useful phrase in my toolbox. 5y
EadieB @Amandajoy Yes! Sounds very similar to my daughter. My husband has ADD too, also my niece, my mom had something going on too and my grandmother on my mom's side could not raise her 4 children so my mom was raised by her grandmother. I think I escaped it as I take after my father and my other daughter is a vet (animal Dr) so she is very focused. I think you just need to do what you can and get plenty of regrouping time. 5y
CafeMom My son was diagnosed last year. I wish I had known earlier as his sophomore grades tanked. He is doing much better this year. Glad to know I can turn to you for advice.😊 5y
EadieB @CafeMom I think it helped my daughter when she read about ADD and the info helped her understand herself better. 5y
