Mensun Bound was the Director of Exploration to attempt to find Ernest Shackleton‘s shipwreck at the bottom of an Antarctic sea, the Endurance, which sank during his attempt to be the first to reach the South Pole. This book covers both attempts in 2019 (unsuccessful) & 2022, which was successful. The 2022 search was bookended first by the pandemic, and then the Russian invasion of Ukraine, both affecting the morale of the crew. Even so they ⬇️

Texreader persevered through extreme conditions and amazingly discovered it. I‘m sad I don‘t remember it in the news. I too was overwrought about the Russian invasion. This probably won‘t be a favorite of mine, the book can be extremely technical, and you have to know a lot of boating terms, which escape me. But I appreciated the history, and the palpable joy from the author from finding the ship. This is my 2nd book for #Antarctica #readingOceania 2mo
Librarybelle I don‘t remember the discovery mentioned in the news either! 2mo

#ReadYourKindle

Still only reading a few chapters a day of The Postcard so am not sure how I will do. The tagged book is short, The Batter of Life and Death is the 2nd in a series I‘ve been meaning to go back to, What the Dead Leave Behind is the beginning of a great sounding series and Marion Lane is a holdover from last month.

Hoping my reading mojo comes back soon.

CBee @Deblovestoread do you ever read graphic novels? Those have helped me get out of a slump before. Also, good thrillers help 😊 2mo

I started this audiobook today for #Antarctica #readingOceania. I decided to forego Greta and Valdin. I‘ve read way too many books on #NewZealand (6 or 7) and once I started listening to it I wasn‘t too keen on it. This will be only my second book for Antarctica

I forgot how I found out about this book, the same author who wrote Caddy Woodlawn. Read this in one sitting, it was adorable.

I‘m bailing. Hate to do it, but since looking at the excellent books I read in January I don‘t want to lose that streak of excellence just starting off in February. This book is dry as dirt. There‘s a shipwreck but it‘s not as dire as it makes out. They‘re on an island with a constant food source (sea lions) and ability to build shelter. If it weren‘t cast as so life-threatening then maybe it‘d be ok. But the attempt at drama is poor. ⬇️

Texreader So I do not recommend it for #foodandlit or #readingoceania #NewZealand 3mo

This was a bit of a different look at the story of the Titanic. I quite liked it! Some of the stories were of first class passengers I knew a bit about or at least remember hearing their names (Madeleine Astor, John Jacob Astor‘s young, new, pregnant wife; Sir Cosmo Duff Gordon and his wife, Lady Duff Gordon); also J. Bruce Ismay, a White Star official. Many of the stories were people I hadn‘t heard about before.

I really liked this story. I have to say that I like so much how this author describes the events. This is about an expedition to try to locate Arcadia ship and explore what happened. Cove and her team will dive to examine the area but it seems that inside Arcadia “...something dark and hungry watches from below” (taken from the book blurb). Maybe the ending was abrupt, maybe some parts were repetitive dragging the story but it was atmospheric⬇️

Gissy If you are claustrophobic or have phobia to be deep in the ocean, I don‘t think this book is for you. There are some parts that I felt that I was drowning or felt that I needed air but that was part of this story. In terms of the horror part, well I was not too scary but it is because that is not my best horror trope. Still I enjoyed the story. I read the physical book with the audio. 3.8⭐️ Received book from @lirahlu 07/01/2022 #SummerSpookySwap 6mo
Gissy I need to read more books by this author 👻
