A foggy frosty drive home from Nebraska but we are warming up as we travel southward. Started this last night for #ToBshortlist; was NOT aware it is a story collection (or forgot) and yowza! That first one is scary/unsettling. Not at all festively holiday-themed LOL but I did encounter a pie reference, so there‘s that.

squirrelbrain This doesn‘t come out here until mid-Feb but I was gifted vouchers for Christmas so will pre-order it, in time to read before the Tournament. Safe rest of your trip! 12h
BkClubCare @squirrelbrain - thank you! Happy Holidays! I have full intention of being a Completist this year, and might even have time reread a few I didn‘t fully “get” (All Fours) 12h
squirrelbrain Happy Holidays to you too! I‘m hoping to be a completist too, although there are 3 not out yet in the UK. I‘m also reading as much of the #ToBlonglist as I like the look of but there‘s a few on there I don‘t fancy. Currently reading Cuckoo and just started an ARC of Model Home. 11h
BkClubCare @squirrelbrain - yes, I am enjoying ALL your reviews. I have kept Model Home on my library holds but canceled a LOT. Best to both of us, ALL of us ToB readers 11h

Lovely, just lovely. Don‘t expect high drama and fast plot; the writing is quietly powerful. It‘s a good idea to know what this book *is* before reading. #ToBShortList #Dec2024 Book115

Roadtrip to KCMO to catch a flight to New England. I woke up with the bother of a cold; going anyway. I‘ll keep my distance from people, I promise.

Suet624 Have fun in my neck of the woods! 1w
Ruthiella Back to your old stomping grounds? 1w
BkClubCare @Ruthiella @Suet624 - almost made it; woke at 2am and this cold/crud crap has my head imploding and I am canceling the trip 😢 So now I am emotionally miserable to go with the physical 😩 1w
Suet624 Oh no! I‘m so sorry. 1w
Ruthiella So sorry to hear that! ❤️🤒 Hope you feel better soon. 1w

It took me a while to get through this weird little book, but I did like it. In the face of a weird fog/plague/catastrophe the main character does her best to care for her mother, her ex husband, and the little boy placed in her care. #ToBLonglist but not #ToBShortlist I‘m surprised by that.

Hooked_on_books I liked this one. I would have loved to have seen it make the shortlist. 2w

I am looking forward to this the more I hear that people didn‘t like it. Not sure why 🤷🏻‍♀️ Hope this approach works in my favor: Tempered Affinity? #ToBShortList

Posing Copper with the🎄has been a challenge this season! Or maybe he only cooperates when I tell him it is for Litsy?! 😂

Audio 🎧 was a good way to experience this and I give kudos to the narrator Cassandra Campbell 🌟 Her voice was perfect for the present tense and the repetition. We get such interesting insight into a broad view of the female psyche; how diverse our wants and needs might be. We are fighters all.

Well, this was weird…. A group of translators gather together to translate Irena Rey‘s latest work. They only refer to each other by their languages - this book is written by Spanish but translated by English and I struggled to follow who was narrating. The MC, whoever she was, was also incredibly immature and whingey, or was that as a result of English not liking Spanish?! And the ending? 🤯🤨

I‘m kind of glad I read it though.

#tobshortlist

Jas16 I think I will be skipping this one. 3w
BarbaraBB I felt the same. I gave it a pan though, not sure why. 3w
Hooked_on_books I didn‘t know what to think of this one. It irritated and entertained me equally. I do like its uniqueness. 3w
squirrelbrain Yes @Hooked_on_books - it was irritatingly compelling. (Or maybe compellingly irritating!) 3w
BkClubCare #whingey ! 😂 There was just so much going on. And I barely kept up. 2w

The March #bookspin list is primarily #tobshortlist for #tob23. First up is the tagged novel. Wish me luck!

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! 2y
BarbaraBB The tagged book is goooood! 2y
Larkken @BarbaraBB I am enjoying it so far - very dif from my last tob, which was Nightcrawling. Which is good! Dunno if I could have done another book with that much sadness so soon. 2y
BkClubCare I see some past ToB books on that list. Enjoy 2y

February has felt a little full! Between a family ski vacation, a work conference in Orlando, and regular work fun, I‘ve been fitting in books where I can. I‘m trying to read as many #tobshortlist #tob2023 as possible, to actually participate in the tournament for once, and of course keep up with #aam and other challenges… but sometimes giant fantasy/horror chunksters get in the way 😆 I enjoyed all of these - and they were all so very different!

Larkken I maybe liked Sea of Tranquility the best - I love to see literary spec fix, and this one played with time travel tropes nicely - but Malibu Rising was very satisfying. I liked the come-uppetances in the ending (though maybe that is petty? 😬) 2y
