Sorry @Cinfhen @Reviewsbylola @BarbaraTheBibliophage ⬆️☹️

Honestly, I‘m a bit frustrated because the first 60 pages are turning out to be another book about the plight of rural white dudes. And they ASSUME (😒) it‘s the same for blacks, Latinx, and natives(!!) then they talked about how great the Homestead Act was for getting housing. Yes, for WHITES. Wasn‘t so great for natives!! 🤯

I‘m not sure how I feel if this is more whiny white people.

8little_paws I didn't get this from botm, but i had high hopes for it . So I'm sorry to read this. Does it have pictures? 4y
Megabooks Okay, so the next 40 broadened it, which is good! 4y
Megabooks @8little_paws it got better. Not perfect, but better. Yes, it has pictures. 4y

BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘m glad you did what worked for you! Anxious to hear your thoughts as you read more. 4y
8little_paws @Megabooks i think they're by lynsey addario i really like het. I'll borrow this bill. 4y
8little_paws I mean book 4y
KT1432 Uugghhh I was really looking forward to this one too!! Now wishing I hadn‘t picked it. I was assuming it would have a...broader and more encompassing scope. 😞 4y
Cinfhen I‘m glad you started as my copy is still in Philly and will NEVER be here by February😣you may have to #WalkTheLine alone too @BarbaraTheBibliophage 😘as far as content I‘m happy it‘s improved somewhat but still kind of disappointing #WhinyWhites aren‘t my reading preference 😜 4y
Megabooks @BarbaraTheBibliophage @8little_paws @lele1432 They‘ve opened it up some, but still, they focus more on working class whites. They had one part on a Central America-descendant veteran in Baltimore and a black woman incarcerated in Alabama, but it‘s pretty white. @Cinfhen (edited) 4y
Megabooks @BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen Thanks for understanding. 👍🏻 I‘m enjoying it. No book is perfect. It‘s still sitting at my entry 4⭐️. Nick and Sheryl can write a book after all! 4y
Megabooks @lele1432 they‘re following a lot of people from Nick‘s hometown in rural Oregon, which I get, but it‘s pretty well trod ground at this point. White, rural opiate/meth/poverty epidemic has 15 years of books like this. That said, this is better written than some of the older ones. 4y
Cinfhen I‘m glad to hear it‘s well written / that counts for a lot!! You better write well if you‘re gonna whine 😆 4y
Megabooks @Cinfhen Agreed! If this had been written 10 years ago, it would‘ve been a revelation!! Now it‘s kind of like, uh-huh. Maybe they‘ll have solutions later on. I‘m halfway through. I took a 7 hour nap in the evening. I‘m on Israeli time if anyone asks! 😂😂 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen Reading it in February isn‘t set in stone for me. (What reading really ever is?) I‘m feeling overwhelmed by the stuff on my shelf and also some group reads. Plus we will be on vacay for part of the month, which isn‘t always better for my reading. So ... if we move into March, that‘ll probably be fine for me! 4y
Reviewsbylola I‘m glad this ended up being better for you Meg! And I‘m still interested in reading it with you @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage . I don‘t care when, so just lmk! 4y
Cinfhen Ok @Reviewsbylola @BarbaraTheBibliophage that sounds great 👍🏽 and welcome to my timezone @Megabooks 🥰😘 4y
Megabooks @Cinfhen thanks! It‘s what‘s working for me now! 🤷🏻‍♀️😁🥰😘 4y
