I got the tagged book for Christmas (my sister is awesome) and used some of my Christmas gift card on the other three (my dad is also awesome). I‘ve been waiting forever to get this Riordan but now I have to wait on the new Percy books to come out in paperback 😢 and I decided to bite the bullet on Bride. I‘ve liked everything else I‘ve read by AH (which is everything but Check & Mate, which I‘m currently reading) so we‘ll see. #bookhaul

I think I heard about this book through and interview with the author on a podcast; otherwise I was completely unaware of this story.

In 1999 (!) MIT admitted to discriminating against women scientists (ongoing at the time, not just in the past). They corrected their practices, but as related in the epilogue, there are still men who think women don't have as much of an aptitude for science as men do 🙄

Fascinating

Bette I read Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon last year which is based on Ballard. It was very well done; Martha was a remarkable person. 1mo
Jen2 I didn‘t know that. Frozen River is on my list!! 1mo

A fascinating book with a sense of humor! I love linguistic history and this book really delved deep. I learned all kinds of fascinating nuggets. For example, did you know that the “hus” in “husband” and the “house” in “housewife” come from the same thing?! The author did share some opinions that I side-eyed as on the border of TERFy. Note: the title is a little misleading; this book is very specifically about English.

This book would be great in the classroom, especially to celebrate Black History Month and to help students dream and teach them that they can achieve their dreams.

The illustrations this book are really good. The storyline in this book is also very inspiring.
