pickI love Bahni Turpin! And she did a great job narrating this book. A fun book about an imaginative 10 year old Black girl in the 1960s who is learning what freedom really means. She loves with her aunt and helps to run the boarding house. One of the boarders acts a little strangely and Octobia May is convinced he is a vampire. While she finds out he isn‘t a vampire, she does discover something else about him that leads her on an adventure. ⬇️
katy4peas A fun mystery with history and a spunky, independent main character. A little violent in parts which surprised me, but could lead to good talks about Jim Crow laws and good and bad behaviors. 3y
