Well, I‘m calling it a night. I didn‘t quite reach my goal, but I got quite a bit of reading in and learned some new things relating to LGBTQ culture. Thanks for taking this #ATBWeekendReadathon journey with me. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

If you are not a member of #ATB you are welcome to join in next time. The more the merrier. We can also be found on GoodReads. Just look for the Across The Bookshelves group to join us.

jb72 I didn‘t reach my goal, but I did get Jurassic Park finished which I‘m very pleased about. Plus I did get more read time in this time than last time so that‘s a plus. 6y
JaclynW @jb72 Yay! That's something to celebrate. 👏 6y
JaclynW @Erin7 Thanks for organizing this! I enjoyed the articles you posted. Cute picture and comic in this post too! 6y
JaclynW I have 35 minutes left of my audiobook and 35 pages left to read of my library book. How did I manage those identical numbers?? Haha! Crazy! I'm still going to read for a bit though, so maybe I will get one completely finished. That is a lot more than I expected this weekend so I'm very pleased! 6y
AceOnRoam @JaclynW love these reading coincidences! 6y

Finished! It was a good book. A lot of details and it seemed well researched. #ATBweekendreadathon #ATB #dinosaurs

BooksBikes12 @jb72 im hoping to hit the thrift books.com and find this jewel.. 6y
jb72 @Books_Bikes_12 I actually found my copy in a used bookstore for 50 cents. 6y
BooksBikes12 @jb72 I saw about 5 other of his books but not Jurassic park 😕 6y
jb72 @Books_Bikes_12 Jurassic Park is the only book of his I own as of right now. I‘d like book 2, but then again he died so do I really want to go down this rabbit hole?!?!? 6y

Getting the kiddos outside for a swim while I try to get my time in. We‘re at the home stretch you guys. What are you reading? Where are you most comfortable reading? #ATBWeekendReadathon

jb72 I‘m coming to the end of Jurassic Park. It‘s rather fast paced right now. I enjoy reading in bed or cuddled up with blankets on the couch. I think my total reading time is only at three hours right now. 6y
Jess_Read_This Ok. I want to be reading where you are reading!! That looks like the perfect spot! I‘ve started on the second book but haven‘t kept a time log... I‘d guess all together I‘m at about 12 hours though? 6y
JaclynW @Erin7 @Jess_Read_This @jb72 I haven't kept a time log either! I always forget. But I'm nearing the end of both my audiobook and library book. I will still be reading more tonight. (I did some yardwork today and then had my meditation group meeting.) I usually read on the couch or in bed. If the weather cooperates, I have a special chair on my deck or a hammock. But really,I read anywhere! Your swimming pool looks like a lovely place to read Erin! 6y

Erin7 @JaclynW Thanks. It‘s my ma‘s actually. She lives next door and lets us come over whenever we have time. I‘ve tried a couple of times to keep an actual log and find it to be really tedious. I prefer to just get in as much reading as I can during these readathons. I guess I‘m more essence of the law than letter of the law in this respect😊. But I do push myself harder to make the time to read which is fun for me. 6y
AceOnRoam I like to read in bed, no sound, lots of blankies, no distractions, unless hubby is bringing coffee or toast 😊 6y
JaclynW @AceOnRoam Sounds perfect! 6y
JaclynW @Erin7 I'm the same way. Sometimes I think it would be cool to know my actual minutes. Maybe one day... 6y
AceOnRoam @JaclynW Yes. I think it has plenty more to do with my short attention span and easy distractability 🤣😳 6y
JaclynW @AceOnRoam 😂😂😂 Whatever you must do... 😊 6y

“I‘ll tell you a secret, Hanna. The really bad monsters never look like monsters”-Kaz

📖What a beginning to the book already. I just feel like that every word Bardugo puts to paper is intentional and meaningful.

BookBabe Sweet record player 👌🏻 6y
Erin7 Interesting that there is a play on bad guys not always necessarily being bad at the beginning of both books. 6y
Jess_Read_This @BookBabe Thank you!! It was an impulse Prime Day purchase last year that has been a lot of fun! I‘ve really enjoyed chilling with my books and records on the weekend. (edited) 6y

Jess_Read_This @Erin7 Yes!! And both quotes are from Kaz, which immediately caught my attention at what she‘s trying to tell us about the character. Though, we‘ve seen his caring (or caring for him) side a few times already. (edited) 6y
LoverofLit Yes! I agree. Her opening paragraph in this book she writes a line like "stewing in the world's worst cup of tea" or something and I remember being SO impressed, from that first page! 6y
Jess_Read_This @LoverofLit oh yes... that first paragraph is striking!! I was caught up on how miserable and frigid Retvenko was when whiskey fails to warm him.. then she describes the city with that tea sentence! It‘s quite unique writing and she conveys emotions so well. I‘m finding myself more drawn to this series than her Grisha one. 6y
JaclynW Wow! It sounds like every word is intentional. That's how I feel reading Neil Gaiman. 6y
CindyMyLifeIsLit This is next on my list! 6y

5⭐️ I loved this book and was completely absorbed in the tale. The world building and magic was just masterfully created. I grew to care about the characters and appreciated their diversity. Bardugo creates flawed characters with redemptive qualities quite well. I‘m so glad past Jess looked out for future Jess in buying the boxed set of this series... 😉

Erin7 So glad that you loved it. I‘m about 3/4 of the way in myself and am loving it. 6y
Jess_Read_This @Erin7 I‘m glad your enjoying as well! I just love cerebral characters- so Kaz just appeals to me. Though his methods are a bit flawed... 6y

Book 2 for the #ABT #ATBWeekendReadathon The Night Watch by Sarah Waters, author of the amazing Fingersmith, one of my all time favourite books. Time is ticking, gotta run 🏃‍♀️

#ReadingOnRoam

Erin7 I checked out Fingersmith per your racing reviews. I hope you enjoy this one just as much. 6y
AceOnRoam It's a bit slow at the moment but I am sure I will love it Erin, I love how she writes these love stories that aren't love stories. Legend. 6y
AceOnRoam @Erin7 I forgot to tag you. Ohh. New profile pic. I wish you could look closer at them on Litsy, your kids are too cute. 6y

RebelReader I liked Fingersmith and The Night Watch, but I think I liked The Paying Guests better than Night Watch. I will definitely read more of her backlist. (edited) 6y
AceOnRoam @RebelReader I loved The Paying Guests too, it was great but I think I was on my Fingersmith high at the time. THEY ARE ALL GOOD!!! 6y
Erin7 @AceOnRoam Thanks about the photo. That‘s one of my favorites of us three. 6y
jb72 Wow book two?!?! I‘m lagging behind. I hope to read after I make an early dinner. 6y
AceOnRoam @jb72 it was a short book jb, and I managed to stay awake right through the second half lol! 6y

We‘ve reached the halfway point of this #ATBWeekendReadathon. How are you guys holding up? In keeping with the LGBTQ theme I wanted to share an article I found on sexual identity, what it means to be transgender, and the impact of this non binary view of gender has had on society: https://www.economist.com/international/2017/11/16/making-sense-of-the-culture-w...
I‘d like to hear you thoughts on the issue.

Erin7 I‘ll be honest, the learning curve for me is high on this one. I am fine with being who you are and loving who you want to love, but I find the new terms to be foreign. I actually just learned the term “intersex” the other day. The questions over sports are particularly interesting to me. I think track first in my mind and what that would mean for someone born with a penis to run with women. I am torn on this issue. 6y
Erin7 I feel both that both that there should not be prejudice and worry about the fairness to women in that circumstance due to the natural genetic distribution of muscle strength between males and females. 6y
Erin7 This article also brought up medication that allows you to try out the intended sex for a year or two before going into surgery. That‘s genius! I‘ve often wondered about that very issue and wonder if there are those that have shown regret after doing something so permanent. I‘ve heard that it‘s common for people in general who get plastic surgery to be dissatisfied and go in for multiple surgeries. I wonder if the capability to try before 6y
See All 7 Comments
Erin7 committing helps with any possibility for regret. 6y
Jess_Read_This Interesting article, Erin! I also have a learning curve with this topic. I found the part about children and gender identification especially as a point of interest. My thoughts tend to align with the school of thought to give them time to explore which gender they feel comfortable with rather than rush into treatments. The research that supported that was interesting. However, it‘s difficult bc transitioning is easier the younger you are per the 6y
Jess_Read_This Article. So I can see the quandary if what the article is saying is true. I think this will be a topic worth exploring because new questions on policy and inclusiveness will be happening. Thank you for sharing! 6y
AceOnRoam I will have a look soon Erin, looking forward to it. 6y

I really need to find some extra time to read tomorrow...I only got in two hours of reading today. This book is pretty good so far.

JaclynW I hope you get more reading in tomorrow! I'm glad you are enjoying your book. Have you seen the movies? 6y
jb72 @JaclynW yes I‘ve seen the movies (except the newest one). I normally enjoy those too. 6y
JaclynW @jb72 I took my kids to the newest one this summer. It was good. I've never read the book though. I wondered how the book compares to the first movie. 6y
jb72 @JaclynW I‘ll let you know when I finish. It‘s similar so far, but there are a few obvious differences. 6y
JaclynW @jb72 👍 6y

Jess_Read_This @Erin7 It really does. Such a layered statement right off the bat in the story. I think it‘s telling us a lot about Kaz. 6y
Jess_Read_This @AceOnRoam It really was so relaxing last night... except for my neighbor‘s maniac dog barking most of the night lol 6y
AceOnRoam I'm really looking forward to this book now!!! 6y
