Finally, another classic I've been meaning to read for so long. To me, this book only unfolded a couple of hours after I've finished it. While reading, I never knew what to think about it. After a bit of research and going over the story in my head it came to me what a great piece of art this is.
Some things just take their time.
And I'm sure to read this one again.
“On some other world, possibly it is different. Better. There are clear good and evil alternatives. Not these obscure admixtures, these blends, with no proper tool by which to untangle the components.”
Someone on Goodreads just 'liked' my non-existent review of this book, which was thoughtful and kind of them. I did save this quote, though, which as ever with PKD seems to presciently sum up the present state of affairs.
Been a while since I last spent time with this work.
"We do not have the ideal world, such as we would like, where morality is easy because cognition is easy. Where one can do right with no effort because he can detect the obvious."
It continues to speak sadly, starkly, hopefully, truly...
Another Philip k dick book that i want to dive into ! I love finding retro paperbacks of his works this one is the only one I have found so far from the 70's😎😎😎
My tentative TBR for the week, but l‘ll probably start THE DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY this week and maybe the tagged book. Any favorites I should prioritize?
Forgot to post this during yesterday‘s snow storm. ❄️ Very uncharacteristic of me to venture out in bad weather, but something about the way the snow was falling excited me and I wanted to see how it looked covering the train tracks. Very glad I took a stroll to see it! It was so beautiful and peaceful. ❤️ #LitsyWalkers #audiowalk
#BookNBreakfast! Pre-snowstorm outing for an impromptu breakfast at the local diner. Accompaniment this cold and gray (and now snowy!) morn was: American cheese, ham, spinach, and mushroom omelet with black coffee. MMMmmmm 😋! Happy reads & happy eats!
#BookNDinner! #Vietnamese Edition! Trying a new place tonight. Accompaniment this cold and dark evening: pho tái nam gau—a beef broth soup with 3 meats—beef, flank, and brisket, with basil, bean sprouts, and rice vermicelli. Paired with a Thai iced tea. MMMMmmm ?! Happy reads & happy eats!
#LitsyWalkers - Got a decent #audiowalk in today, as it was mild (around 50F) and sunny. Windy though. I‘m glad this huge branch didn‘t land on me! It wasn‘t there yesterday. 😳 I walked to Dunkin for a coffee again, admired the train tracks, and headed back home for a healthy meal with a friend. All in all a successful day! 🙌🏻
Survey Question - Would you count this as 1 book or 4 books?
I doubt I'll read any more than The Man in the High Castle. It went too much over my head and the premise was pretty frightening. I would hate to think about Germany and Japan winning and a concentration camp in NYC. Of course, because the occupying government was racist, some Americans took advantage of it to show their true colors. (shudder) If you read it, please help me understand.
After several days of treadmill due to unfit walking conditions, I finally ventured outside. It was 63F degrees (only 3 days ago it was -5!!!), but as you can see it‘s still icy and treacherous. It‘s going to get cold again, and more snow is supposedly on the way. But it did feel good to get out. I walked to the Dunkin‘ Donuts and got a coffee to reward myself for walking outside today. #LitsyWalkers #audiowalk
I am doing so horribly for #24in48 and #24B4Monday. I only managed to finish one book (crazy day). I also accidentally reset my reading timer. 🤦🏻♀️ Oh well, I must power-through! As for the one book I finished, I‘m pretty conflicted. I enjoyed the details of the alternate world and conceptually, the premise is very interesting. But, I did not enjoy his writing style (not enough emotion) and I didn‘t connect with any of the characters.
Where the Amazon original series fails, I had hoped the book would deliver. I'm so disappointed. Life is too short to read a bad book. I love the idea--this surmises the Reich had won the war--the US is divided between Japan and Germany. The Amazon series has plot holes to drive a Mac truck through. Phillip K. Dick annoyingly verbose. #nope #canteven
#LitsyWalkers Day 2 - Cold again, and the sun was going down, and I was running on very little sleep...so a short walk today. But it was invigorating! And I found a creek that I didn‘t know was in that area. I heard the water bubbling over a small waterfall. It was soothing. Saw several deer, too. 🦌 #audiowalk
#BookNDinner! Accompaniment this cold and flurry-filled night: teriyaki and garlic-ranch wings; cheesesteak sandwich, French fries, a pickle, and beer. MMMmmmm 😋! Happy reads & happy eats! 👌🏻
#BookNLunch! Sandwich, V-8 juice, and a good book. Hoping to read most of this before Thursday‘s book club. I‘ve been wanting to watch the series, but was holding off until after I‘ve read it. This has been another production of #MrBookBookBabeKitchen. Happy reads & happy eats!
finally started this today & i‘m loving it so far! 😍 it will be interesting to see how it compares to the amazon series- or rather, how the series compares to the book. for you dickheads out there who have both read the book & watched the show- what are your thoughts? 🖤 #myPKDjourney
Please, will someone tell me that I'm not the only one that buys a book because a guy that works in the bookshop (also my current crush xD) recommended it to me, as one of his favourites. ?
In my defence it was a "book night" and they had some good deals.

While the basic setting is the same the book is very different from the TV adaptation. The latter is a rollicking thriller, while the book is much more philosophical and speculates on the nature of fate and reality, with a huge twist at the end.
Highly recommended ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I am looking forward to returning to the TV series - somehow I drifted away after season 1.
I‘ve streamed the series and loved the characters, on screen they are rounded and the universe is real an cohesive. I picked up the book knowing it was going to be different but hoping that it would offer more perspective to what I‘d watched. Still got a quarter of the book to go and I‘ve noticed that two of my favourite characters are ones I don‘t like in the book.
I‘ve always loved “what if” & alternative history, so I‘m not sure why it‘s taken me so long to pick this book up.
Dick is such an influential voice in the world of science fiction & dystopian fiction, I‘m really looking forward to this.

Stop whatever you're doing and read this book. And then join me in watching the series on Amazon! Absolutely amazing and eye opening read. Book 2 finally done from my #tbr #readathon in the #24in48. Such an awesome experience and excuse to just to focus on books!! @24in48
