The Secret World Of Wombats | Jackie French, Bruce Whatley
post image

Not new to me, but it may be new to you: Wombats poop square poops! The wombat is one of my favorite animals. Here is some more (new) info for you: Wombats have an extra bony plate on their butts that they can use to crush & kill predators by slamming it up against the predator's neck/head as they're pursuing the wombat into its hole. Yes, wombats live in underground burrows. 😊 #whatsnewwednesday @alwasybeenaloverofbooks @read4life @tiedyedude

Read4life Definitely new to me! 😄 1w
lil1inblue Fun fact: I knew TWO people in high school that were almost named Wombat. 🤣 1w

WildAlaskaBibliophile @lil1inblue “almost“?! Wow, lol! I'd love to hear the story behind that! 1w
lil1inblue @WildAlaskaBibliophile My BFF would have been Wombat if she had been a boy. And I'm not sure why my other friend ended up as Cory instead of Wombat, but knowing his parents, I suspect his Mom vetoed Wombat. It was his nickname, though! So strange that there were 2 people in the same class, though! 1w
WildAlaskaBibliophile @lil1inblue 😃 That's amazing! 7d

After reading her biography I really wanted to read some of her books. This is the third I have read and the first she had published in 1990. It‘s taken me a long time to get through, it was not a page turner. The way she writes is exquisite. I‘m sure if she had lived this young woman would have written many great Aussie stories. I felt a bit sad leaving Clementine , the main character and narrator, at the end of the book.

CarolynM I was looking at this on my shelf yesterday and thinking I need to get to it soon🙂 4w
Jeg @CarolynM I‘ll be interested to see what you think. You must have had that copy for a long time. Hard copies are difficult to get here in our library system. She was/is an amazing weaver of words. 4w

The latest instalment in the Hirsch series, set in the borderland where rural becomes outback, involves a missing backpacker, a body in a suitcase, a family of petty crooks & the online world of bullying, scamming & racist, ableist propaganda. It takes place during the Covid-19 pandemic & I really liked the way that fact of life is used. This is such a good series. TW in spoiler comment. #ozfiction

The book fairies are looking after me. I requested this book from the library. The only hard copy was in our State Library . Today I found this copy in a local op shop. 👏👏. I‘m very happy.

Enjoyable story, but not the strongest mystery - Phryne doesn't investigate the murder until well over halfway through the book; in the meantime she and her adopted family investigate some smaller, unrelated crimes.

I was browsing in my local Dymocks when I spotted this monstrosity with a $5 sticker on the cover…

For some reason I picked it up to peruse the blurb AND the main character is a librarian, there‘s vampires BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY it‘s set in Melbourne. Do you know how rare paranormal romance/urban fantasy set in Australia is?! It‘s even got a cover quote from Kerry Greenwood.

Obviously I bought it immediately.

Bookzombie I look forward to your review when you get to it. I enjoyed Keri Arthur‘s Riley Jenson series set in Australia. 🙂 4mo
