Dune Messiah | Frank Herbert
post image
Pickpick

Dune is a favorite, I marvel at how well-crafted it is each reread. Like the first book, there‘s a mix of philosophy, political and religious commentary, strong character-development (albeit male-centric) that I find engaging. Messiah deepens our knowledge of political forces in interesting ways. Otherworldliness is the landscape and character and the outliers, while seen as freaks within the world, are the most compelling for the reader.

jmofo @wanderinglynn Reporting for #bhc 24/28 days of meditation 5/6 books! Thank you for organizing this, it definitely helped me to remember to slow down and breathe and take care of myself. 5y
jmofo @TheAromaofBooks #bookspin complete! Looking forward to #doublespin I‘m finishing these in a mixed-up order. Thank you for running this. I‘m already thinking about next month 😬 5y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo! I've had Dune on my list for YEARS and still haven't gotten to it! I'm reading my #bookspin books out of order this month as well lol And it's never too early to start planning the next list!! 😁 5y
wanderinglynn Way to go 🙌🏻 Great job! 5y

The Grip of Film | Richard Ayoade
post image
Pickpick

You‘re told early on not to read straight through but I did. 🤷🏻‍♂️
An alphabetical collection of quips, sneaky one-liners, puns, uncomfortable farce, sad truths, and even some insights, it‘s an odd film book with an uncommon premise.
Having familiarity with Ayoade‘s work on Dark Place & Ayoade On Top helps make this sentence salad rewarding. On Top rewards the reader with Ayoade‘s humanity while Grip is his searing cleverness and critique.

jmofo Picture is unrelated to the book, just Ayoade in a bubble on Travel Man. This is book 4/6 for #BHC and my #triplespin for April (still working on my #bookspin and I haven‘t opened my #doublespin yet) @wanderinglynn @TheAromaofBooks (edited) 5y
jmofo And here are a couple samples, if you‘re curious: “I am as frustrated with this as you are about to be” “The head is just a fancy funnel” 5y
SW-T Love Ayoade! 🥰 5y
zezeki I love Ayoade, but I still haven't read any od his books. 😅 5y
DrexEdit Richard Ayoade is awesome! I've been watching Travel Man clips on YouTube. Need to find his books but they are not in my local library. 👍💜 5y

The Secret Garden | Frances Hodgson Burnett

Pickpick

It‘s a snowy day so here‘s a picture from days ago...that‘s Colorado weather for you.
I loved this book. It‘s a book for young‘ns which was good for me as there was just love and companionship and respect, no crushes or love triangles. (Do I need to save myself some heartache and not read the sequel?)
I loved how compassionately the author dealt with children who are not well-mannered and the feelings of adults who are hurting.
Beautiful & sweet

jmofo @wanderinglynn book 3/6 for #BHC still going strong with the meditate (just missed three days so far) I am wondering if I can finish 3 books before the 18th... this has been good for me, regardless, thank you for loosening up the challenge! It was good timing and a lot less intimidating! 5y
wanderinglynn If you can‘t finish 3 books, then adapt your goal. 😉 And great job 🙌🏻 5y
Hooked_on_books I spent 10 years of my childhood in CS and totally remember the changeable weather. Beautiful picture! 5y
jmofo @wanderinglynn thanks for the support! And thank you @Hooked_on_books the Colorado sky‘s so photogenic! 😬 5y
