Absolutely riveting. I couldn‘t put it down. If I had a time machine I would leap to 19th Century China immediately. I can‘t wait to read everything else Rutherfurd has ever written.
Such a creative way of telling the story of China‘s Boxer Movement, aka Society of Righteousness and Harmonious Fists and the Relief of Peking (battle.) I‘m looking forward to reading the companion book, Saints, to learn about the other side of history. Two sides to each story.
#Booked2022 ~ Set in China
Book #2 done! I really liked the juxtaposition the second story held with the first one. I preferred Boxers, but Saints does a good job or showing you why certain Chinese found solace in the misinaries.
Made quick work with this one, but I enjoyed it
A nice refresher on the Boxer rebellion in China. Now off to read Saints!
I finally read Boxers and Saints by Gene Luen Yang! I ended up really loving both books, although I did wish the second book was a touch longer. It was a fascinating story about a time and place (1899 China) I only have basic background knowledge of, and I didn't feel lost. It also made both sides really sympathetic. Overall, they are a moving and engaging pair of books that I would definitely recommend.
Interesting graphic novel based on Chinese history I knew nothing about. Gene luen yang is amazing and I‘m intrigued to read Saints now, which is the other side to this story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The companion to Boxers, about a girl on the other side of the rebellion because she has converted to Christianity. This part was shorter but more intense at the end.
