This time of year is always so busy. Sorry I have been absent from Litsy this week and have not even had much reading time😩 My tree is now up however. I have made a commitment to a more sustainable Christmas which means less buying and a focus on doing things with friends and family.
A Gentleman in Moscow is a lovely book. I hope to finish it today and post a review. Happy Christmas preparations friends. 😘❤️

Very late with my #BookReport and #WeeklyForecast this week 😬I am #audioquilting whilst listening to All That I Am. Reading and enjoying A Gentleman in Moscow and next on the list is Kiss of The Spider Woman.
The quilt is for a fundraiser for our local fire services after weeks of bush fires here in Aus.

Another brilliant short story by Stefan Zweig. A passenger-travelling from India tells his strange story to another passenger.I love his writing! He is a story teller..you can‘t stop reading...the story gets under your skin...they are a little bit unsettling. Apparently Zweig was good friends with Freud. I will definitely read more from him. His books would be great for #ReadingEurope2020 🤗 Highly recommended. Happy reading everyone😍

BarbaraBB I completely agree with you on Zweig. I‘ve read three of his books and loved them all. I have this one lined up for #ReadingEurope2020: 2w

This is a story of the investigation into a true crime that happened in Iceland in 1974. It‘s a bit dry with lots of emphasis on the mistakes made. The real gem is the historical facts about Iceland #ArmchairTravel ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Cinfhen Uh, too bad it wasn‘t great! I‘ll still keep it on my list #ReadingEurope2020 3w

This week I have only read sporadically but am enjoying a nonfiction murder saga set in Iceland, a country that has a very low crime rate. 1974 two men vanish in seperate incidents. I‘m enjoying the interwoven stories of life in Iceland which I was lucky to visit in September. Included is a pic of the very unusual church in Reykjavík. #BookReport
Next up for my #WeeklyForecast is a trip to Moscow... @Cinfhen

I liked this but didn‘t love it. A coffee shop in Tokyo with one seat that allows you to travel back in time. There are some rules. I liked the stories of the time travellers. I found it a little repetitive. A ⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me

CarolynM I liked that the time travellers all found it difficult to know what to say when they met the person they wanted to meet, even though they were so sure before they went that they knew what they wanted. I thought there were some nice insights and observations, but I'd probably agree with your star rating. Maybe 3 1/2 1mo

The Alienist was an engaging read, but maybe a little long winded. I loved the descriptions of New York in the 1890's. So atmospheric. My reading was been interrupted as we are in the grip of a terrible drought and there are bush fires surrounding us. We watched helicopters dropping water on a blaze at the edge of our farm. The fire brigade here is amazing. Unfortunately a nature reserve near us has burned and we fear many koalas have perished😥😥

Chrissyreadit That‘s awful! You do not get evacuated? 1mo
Amiable Oh my goodness, be safe! As for the book —it holds a soft spot in my heart because I was reading it when I was pregnant with my youngest son, and I liked the way the author‘s name looked on the cover. So I named my son Caleb! 😀 1mo

Bad Debts: Jack Irish | Peter Temple

Just finished another wonderful audiobook. Thank you to Litsy for setting me on this path🤣. Bad Debts by Peter Temple is a quintessentially Australian novel...complete with slightly rough but handsome Jack Irish as lawyer / private investigator, a backdrop of Melbourne, expletives and complicated tales!! The writing is sharp and funny. There are 5 novels in the series but they can be read alone. There is also a wonderful TV series ❤️❤️

For the first time this winter it‘s cold here and I have my reading spot in front of the fire. It‘s Saturday night and I have the house to myself. Enjoying the quiet moments and The Bridge📚💕Hope your having a lovely weekend🤗

Velvetfur Haha, here's us in the UK complaining of the intense heat and there's you, on the opposite side of the planet, snuggling up in front of the fire! Greetings from the other side *waves* 👋 4mo
Freespirit Hi Vikki @Velvetfur I‘d heard you were having hot weather. I enjoy our cold weather but it doesn‘t last long. We only light our fire for about 6 weeks. Hope your having a nice weekend😊 4mo
CarolynM That looks so cozy! It's been really cold and wet here the last couple of days. I'm so looking forward to spring. 4mo

Cathythoughts Oh that looks good. I‘m looking forward to winter - I‘m not a summer person 4mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig Ahhhhhh. Reading by the fire rather than air conditioning. I dream of this. 4mo
Freespirit @Cathythoughts I suffer through our long hot summers. My favourite time is Autumn and Spring❤️ 4mo
Freespirit Hi @Crinoline_Laphroaig I don‘t like aircon either. We don‘t have it at home although some days in summer I have wished for it😳 4mo

This book began as an article published in an Australian newspaper and received so much acclaim that it has been expanded into a book. It investigates the roots of misogyny with some historical context, the development of patriarchy, talks about rape, Weinstein, Trump and the development of the #MeToo movement. The women victims of violence world wide is mind boggling! This book is compassionate. He urges men to embrace sensitivity and respect and

Knepp in West Surrey England is a 3,500 acre farm where herds of animals roam free and rare species have returned to the restored habitat. An inspirational and thought provoking story.
It would be a wonderful place to visit.

Just finished listening to this retelling of Shakespeare‘s Hamlet by Ian McEwan and I thought it was really clever. The story is told by a very well spoken child in utero!!
I thought it was funny and I loved the descriptive writing. I would now like to read another Shakespearean retelling ❤️ #retelling #hamlet #literature

LapReader Margaret Atwood did one that was supposed to be good. 5mo
Freespirit I have it in my huge mountain of books to be read Allissa @LapReader Hag Seed. I might have to read it next🌷 5mo
Aimeesue Hag-Seed is part of the Hogarth Shakespeare series of modern retellings, and probably the best. Vinegar Girl is also good. Jane Smiley's A Thousand Acres is a retelling of King Lear. My favorite is Stoppard's Rosencrantz andGuildenstern are Dead, but that's a play and best watched; it's what the minor characters are talking about/doing when the major characters are "on stage." (edited) 5mo
Aimeesue I kinda have a thing for retellings. 😁 5mo
Freespirit Thank you @Aimeesue 😘I will be on the lookout for some of those books. This was my first retelling and I liked it a lot! 5mo

Loved reading the correspondence between Helen in New York and workers at a book shop in London. Later she visits this wonderful city and explores the historical and literary places that make it so special.
“If you happen to pass by 84 Charing Cross Road, kiss it for me. I owe it so much”
Is it still there? I know the bookshop is shut. Something for me to find when I go to London🙏🏼

Listening to Tim Winton is a real privilege. The Turning is a book of his short stories vaguely connected. The language is simple and real...his descriptions of the coastline, townships and the people inhabiting them are beautiful. At times it‘s harsh, funny or sad. He makes a great walking companion along my road on a sunny winters day 🤗 🇦🇺#ozliterature #literaryfiction #audiowalk
