This was a dark and depressing story of a narcissistic mother.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I‘ve never watched any family YouTubers cause it doesn‘t feel right but I followed this story closely. The oldest child of Ruby Franke is a brave and stronger than she knows you g girl to fight for her siblings and to see the truth of her abusive mother. I hope one day she sees the part the Mormon church played in this tragic story and break free of all her shackles. She is getting good therapy and I have no doubt she will be ok.

Stolen Childhood | Casey Watson

3✨ Going into this book I knew I was going to be uncomfortable. Casey is a behaviorist at a children‘s school, so all the troubled kids come to her. When she meet Kiara and learns her history there are red flags that she is slipping through the system. While there are many kids in this class dealing with more real life than they should, Kiara has a worse case scenario that literally made my jaw drop at one point. Poor kid. #Roll100 February

My hold for this audiobook came in last night and I consumed it in less than 24 hours!

My heart broke for those innocent children and the horrors they had to live through.

Especially loved how Shari never mentioned her younger siblings‘ names in order to not take away their own narratives.

Honestly where to begin… this book broke my heart. And as a social work student, soon to be a working clinical social worker, it broke my heart in many different ways. It‘s saddening to read about another child abuse victim who could have been saved much quicker if social services had intervened sooner. It‘s even more disheartening to read about a foster parent profiting from the misfortunes of one of her children. 3.5⭐️

I had never heard of or watched the family Youtube channel and I only became aware of it from the news. I did follow the story a little bit but to hear it in the words of the oldest daughter Shari was truly shocking. The emotional abuse and as Shari put it, psychological warfare is hard to wrap your head around when children are involved. Also the book was very well written and a really good read.

Just finish this book yesterday and it was a great memoir. Shari is so brave for sharing her family‘s story. This book really shows that even through hardship you are able to come out a stronger person on the other side.

I read an article in the UK press a few months ago about this family and, of course, I‘d seen a lot of reviews on here.

Shari is the eldest daughter of Ruby Franke, an LDS mommy vlogger who presented a perfect family life to the work when, in reality, she was mentally abusing her kids.

I‘m glad that Shari could tell her story, and also that she protected her younger siblings from the glare of social media and other publicity.

Goodness 😥 All I can say is that I hope that Ruby and Jodi never get parole. Major kudos to Shari for telling her story and speaking her truth. I‘m interested to watch the documentary on Hulu (drops February 27) - it‘s actually authorized by Kevin Franke, Shari, and her brother Chad.
