In a novel about a 13-year-old girl who shot her brother, you want to read about their mother‘s old flame from high school, right? If so, you‘re in luck, as the book spends the majority of the time on that relationship.

That wasn‘t the case for me, though. I felt like the character‘s motivations and connections could have been explored much further in this intricate and layered set-up.

Very hard to get through.

Loss. So much loss in this book. But also resilience. And ultimately, hope. A worthwhile read, but you have to be in the right mood.

My picks for #ThematicCozies April: #Sports

The tagged book features river rafting & other outdoor adventures in Colorado. Geared for the Grave (I‘ll be listening to the free audiobook on Audible), is centered around a bike store on Mackinac Island. Both are first in series.

julieclair These both look good. Happy reading! 3w

I love that this book went in a different direction than I expected after the first few pages. What I thought was going to be a legal drama ended up being about the lives surrounding the death of a teenager at the hands of his sister. Their parents and her lawyers have history and secrets that get brought to the forefront after years of avoidance. Guilt, blame, forgiveness and characters I would never befriend but a story I could look away from.

Riveting from the word go, this book explores a family tragedy and its reverberations for each member as well as how it is intertwined with past events. I was fully engrossed and didn‘t want to stop listening.

4.75⭐️ I think I first heard about the book through either Sarah‘s Bookshelves Live or Currently Reading, but whichever podcast I heard about the book from, I knew that I would have never heard about it if not for them. I flew through the book and it took me less than 24 hours from starting it to finishing it. I really liked the way the author told the story. Probably one of my favourites for #2025. #bookreview #historicalfiction #fiction

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - This was a really good read. I would have given it 5 ⭐️s but I was disappointed in the ending. It wasn‘t bad, just not enough to me. I hope you get what I mean. It was very interesting. Read it fairly quickly for me. Some language, but not much. No bad sexual content, but some. Just giving those who look for those things a heads up. Recommend to all. This was my Book of the Month for February. #BookoftheMonth #LitsyReads #Read2025
