It's still two weeks away, but I've pre-ordered John Scalzi's new novel, the 7th book in the Old Man's War series. I'm so happy he's returning to this series, it's one of my all time favorites. #SeriesLove2025

Finished this yesterday for #ThematicCozies August #Travel & found it a solid cozy. Set on a upscale European river boat cruise (in this first one it starts in Budapest), where the MC, London Rose has just been named Social Director (sort of the cruise director) & one of the passengers dies on an outing under mysterious circumstances. Overall, I liked London & the mystery wasn‘t bad. I‘d read the next one in the series.

julieclair Sounds fun! I‘d love to take a river cruise. @kspenmoll also read one from this series in August and enjoyed it. 8h

This is my favourite kind of Crime Thriller, packed to the brim with police procedures and a change to discover for one self who the culprit is.

Slaughter really has a unique ability to write characters you can't help loving; in impossible situations, you don't want to find yourself in.

I'm intrigued to know what will happen next for my new friends in North Falls.

#serieslove2025 This 4th book in the series picks up 8 months after book 3, speeding up the timeline our characters have to save Princess Jaslyn from dying on her 18th birthday and being taken over by the evil far king Mordeus. Lots of searching for answers and trying to avoid processes but a nice conclusion to this saga. I wasn‘t as hooked as the other 3 but had to see how it all played out. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2

That‘s another series cleared from my shelf. I really enjoyed the first couple of books in this series, but felt by book 4 it was getting jaded, and sadly this, the 5th in the series, is even more tired. Dunbar is so intent on shoehorning politics into her book that she forgot to make the story and characters interesting.

I wish this kind of read was available when I was a teenager!

As a book about a girl and her dragon, this book was splendid fun. As a book about an indigenous island girl and her endangered species dragon, this is the kind of book I've been waiting for...as an indigenous reader, this fantasy is a treasure 📚🐉💖.

I prefer books without battles, but some may find this a bit slow paced.

👇🏼

AnnCrystal This was like a journey log from the MC's POV, with plenty of drama mixed into the storyline.

I was trying to keep away from books that capture some of the darkness that is now our crazy, chaotic reality.

If this book would have been available before these dark times, I wouldn't have been as disturbed by the unjust society that Anequs and her dragon Kasaqua must journey through.

AnnCrystal Reading this now, during these dark times that we're all experiencing, I found this to be an unsettling read.

Unsettling, yet beautiful.

This world was well developed and incredibly detailed. All the characters were crafted with care and respect.

I would have liked more time on the island and learning more about the traditions there. Perhaps in the second book.

The MC Anequs held the resilience and dignity from real life Native Nations.

AnnCrystal I've read books with lesbian or gay characters. This is the first with a bisexual character (Anequs). I liked how this gave a unique chance with two possible love interests for Anequs...although, I don't believe I cared for the polyamorous. At this point, I'm not sure who I like better for Anequs. I like both Liberty and Theod...but I'd prefer for Anequs to truly fall for one or the other, not both at the same time (that's just me).

AnnCrystal The magic system was just beginning to be truly explored at the end of the book, so I'm hoping the next book shows more.

I am also hoping that we readers get to travel to the unconquered lands, meet the tribal people there, and learn more about the indigenous methods of working with Dragons.

This storyline is incredible.

There are 511 pages divided into 87 unmarked chapters.

The 7th case for DS Washington Poe & analyst, Tilly Bradshaw, sees them hunting for a deadly sniper. With a body count of 17 & rising, the killer never misses but it's difficult to track them or predict their next move as their targets & locations seem to be completely random. Poe & Bradshaw are the best there is, but how do you catch a killer who never makes a mistake?

OutsmartYourShelf This delivers exactly what readers of this series are expecting; fast-paced action, humorous banter especially between Bradshaw & Poe, & the trademark twists & turns. Except as the twists are expected, they're harder to pull off & this lessens any real sense of jeopardy for me. 3.75🌟

My thanks to #NetGalley & publishers, Little, Brown Book Group UK/Constable, for the opportunity to read an ARC.

3½✨
I know this one isn't officially part of the #RealmOfElderlings read-a-long.

However, after discovering the Piebald Prince in Assassin's Quest and realizing there's a short story about him, I simply had to find out more.

As with everything I've read by Hobb this is a well tailored little tale of the first Witted Prince to take a short rule over the Six Duchies.
⬇️ continue ⬇️

Enchanted_Bibliophile I believe it marks the beginning of all the Wit Magic rumors and misconceptions we've encountered in the Farseer trilogy.
There's drama, cunning and at the heart of all; of course there's Love.

I'll definitely recommend this to all my fellow #RealmOfElderlings reading buddies.
