After my allergist appointment, I stopped in at Barnes & Noble & treated myself with 2 books & a snack. Beautiful day, in 60‘s with a gentle breeze. #contentment #coffeeandbooks

Burroughs thoughts on plague as the height of human suffering coincide with the statement that in Christ we have all.

Calm My Anxious Heart | Linda Dillow
Pickpick

As a worrier, this book was a really helpful read. The author served as a missionary in Eastern Europe for many years and I loved hearing her stories from that time. It helped put some things into better perspective.

Practicing thankfulness can be so hard. This section was really convicting and gave me a good place to start in kicking off 2020 right!

I‘m not going to say I agreed with all of this book, but it does express some good points. Often, and especially in the church, singleness is seen only as a stage of waiting. Yet, at some point that doesn‘t work and absolutely doesn‘t help. Sometimes, due to circumstance or choice, singleness is just the state of being, and this book acknowledges realities and positive aspects of that from a Christian perspective.

Daisey Thanks @MissKatie for bringing this book to my attention. 5y
TheBookHippie Thanks for posting was just talking about this today. 5y
Suet624 I haven't read this book but after three marriages I can tell you I'm finally happy to be single. :). Apparently it's what is best for me. My ex's are friends of mine and I have lots of company so it's all good. 5y

Scochrane26 The grouping of people in many churches around being married & emphasis on getting married bugs me a lot. Fortunately, my church hasn‘t ever been like that. 5y
Daisey @TheBookHippie The way singleness is viewed in the church? This book is the most positive discussion I‘ve seen on remaining single. I would be curious to hear if you know of others. 5y
Daisey @Suet624 It makes sense that it really is just the best for some, and I wish it were more widely recognized. I still don‘t know if that is really what is meant to be for me, but accepting it now is better than constantly waiting in frustration. 5y
Daisey @Scochrane26 I personally feel very comfortable single in my church as well, but as time goes on this general view of only waiting for marriage annoys me more. 5y
TheBookHippie @Daisey my very good friend was looking for a good book on this, we‘ve had no luck, she is single by choice and we‘ve never found one. She had just been told God didn‘t mean for man to be alone so she replied I am not a man 🤣. However she hates the I don‘t fit in the church structure feeling. It frustrates her. 5y
BookBabe Great review! Sounds like a good book. Author Phylicia Masonheimer also wrote a book on this topic. https://phyliciamasonheimer.com/product/fruitful-ebook/ 2y
Daisey @BookBabe Thanks, I‘ll have to look it up. Is this one you‘ve read yourself? 2y

At the beginning of today it definitely did not register with me that this was a #24b4Monday read-a-thon weekend!!

In fact, I think I finished this book cover to cover today and didn‘t even realize I was logging hours until it was complete.

My goal for the weekend isn‘t going to be in hours, but rather to finish one more book to complete my 2019 Goodreads Reading Challenge!!

Local library summer reading challenge? ✔️

Clwojick Woohoo! 🙌🏻 You‘re going to crush it! You are so far ahead of schedule! 🔥🔥🔥 Are you going to up your annual goodreads goal, or leave as be? 5y
Chelseabillups30 @Clwojick, thank you so much!! I‘m excited to wrap up the original goal early!! First time that‘s happened since I joined in 2011!! I think I‘m going to add like five more books to my total since between now and the end of the year I‘m going to be going back to school and have a full schedule of more difficult classes than I‘ve had this summer, a heavier workload there is going to slow my reading pace a bit!! 😂😂😂 5y

Mehso-so

I wanted to absolutely love this one because Jeff is the pastor @ the church I attend & I‘ve gleaned so much spiritual wisdom from his other books.

I applaud the plain language most of this book is written with, it‘s an easy & quick read, aside from some Christianity based history within the pages.

I can appreciate the overarching message & it had some quotable moments I made sure not to forget to save, overall it was just “Meh!” for me.
