This series is a fun, easy read. While Violet and her mother are going over plans for Friendsgiving, they hear a scream. The 1st murder is discovered. As Violet heads to the victim‘s wife, she discovers the 2nd. While searching out clues, Violet is attacked and now it‘s personal. It‘s always fun watching Violet deal with news, holiday festivities and still sleuth.

Things become complicated for Jazzi when her friend & bookstore co-owner Dawn discovers a violently murdered body after a cooking competition. It‘ll be up to Jazzi to investigate when Dawn‘s mental health nose dives.

This was disappointing. The bookstore didn‘t make nearly as much of an appearance as I wanted, the prose was repetitive & ridiculously over detailed. The solve didn‘t feel well set up. The narrator did a good job though.🌕🌕🌑🌑🌑

julieclair 3 cheers for the narrator! 😆 #BetterBooksAhead , hopefully. 2mo

I‘m so excited for my #ThematicCozies read for September. Books about books are a weakness I feel no shame for. 😆

My Father Always Finds Corpses (Jarrod Jarvis Mysteries 1), by Lee Hollis (2025)
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Premise: A former child star teams up with his grown daughter to solve the mystery of her estranged boyfriend, an up-and-coming documentary filmmaker with a startling number of enemies.
⬇️

Mattsbookaday Review: This amateur sleuth tale has a lot going for it — a fun protagonist, a unique and vivid setting, a great cast of side characters. and an intriguing plot — but poor writing keeps it from living up to its potential.

Bookish Pair: For a non-mystery in a similar setting with a similar protagonist, Steven Rowley‘s The Guncle (2021)

The characters are strong, interesting, and are developing depth, so I am looking forward to seeing what Ms. Lewis has planned for them next.
