I lost my mom when I was 14 & I can‘t believe it took me this long to find this book. Full of wisdom about how grief stays with you and grows in different seasons of life, this book helped me so much. If you‘ve lost your mom, no matter how old you are, I would highly recommend this. There were so many moments that made me realize I was not alone.

“For the motherless daughter, depending on independence is not nearly as contradictory as it sounds.”

willaful I'm so sorry. There's no good time to lose your mom but 14 must be one of the absolute worst. 1mo
DrSabrinaMoldenReads I forgot about the book. I loved it in helping my clients 1mo

AvidReader25 @willaful Thanks, it‘s been hard to realize that you grieve all over again for the relationship you could of had as adults too. 💙 1mo

I am currently about an hour south of Hollywood! I loved this version of Sense and Sensibility! A really fun retelling with some original storylines as well as still recognizable to Austen fans.

IriDas An hour as in an hour or as in how long it took in LA traffic? :) 5mo
Chrissyreadit @IriDas Ha!!! no in LA traffic it would be closer to 2. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 5mo

A little late coming to this great parenting resource, but I'm still going to implement some of other over great conversation starter ideas and bonding moments. Thanks Robin!

Very interesting history of James Joyce and the author's childhood with her “fearly“ father.

3.5 ⭐This is a wonderful book. It‘s meant more for about second grade than for reading nightly at bed. It is a little long, but it needs to be long for the purpose of the story. I really like how in the very end, not only does the author give her recipes for sauce and for chutney there‘s also information about tomatoes, information about farmworkers and a note from the author themselves. I can picture Padma in my head while I‘m waiting this.

LibrarianRyan Whether I picture her because the illustrator does a fantastic job or because of the words and having seen her for years on top Chef. I do think this book is uniquely her and it does work. Do I think she could be a frequent picture book writer… Depends. I would need to see more work to make a better opinion. 9mo
mhillis I used this book as part of a discussion event on food culture with adult English language learners. The illustrations are beautiful aren‘t they? 9mo
LibrarianRyan @mhillis that‘s cool. 9mo

Shelf sort read ! 2 girls born on the same day in a small New Hampshire hospital whose situations couldn‘t be less alike . Ruth longs to pursue art & adventure. She takes for granted her grounded family rooted to a farm for generations. Dana is born to a couple of drifters & dreamers, feeling often she‘s more of the adult than her parents. She is grounded in reality & science.born in 1950, get caught up in the times , think Woodstock & Vietnam.

#AboutABook #FromTBRList this shelf project is going to take a LONG time. My TBR pile has been pretty stagnant too!🙄So after doing 2 shelves , culling a duplicate, moving some to another location to be by the rest by an author,I said I liked Maynard‘s Labor Day & this is the book after that one. Then WHAT ? This book has been on a shelf since 2010? It‘s next ! Sheesh

MommyWantsToReadHerBook Ooh, I loved Labor Day - let me know if this one is worth it! 1y

HISTORICAL FICTION - DRAMA

What a heartwarming, cozy, feel good read.....a sweet, nostalgic book...but with all good things there usually are regrets, heartbreak, and secrets.

You will be surprised at who/what the “good daughters” turn out to be and will also learn some fun agricultural facts about fruits and vegetables.

If you liked The Glass Castle, you will like this as well.

In this world where children are being bombarded with sex, perverse ideologies, and absent fathers, this book is a cry from the walls for dads to step up and in. We have to engage. We are (outside of the heavenly Father) the role model for their future husbands. We have a direct effect on the course of their life. Be there. Fight for your daughter. Great resource for any dad.
