Been reading a lot that has taxed my brain. It's time to relax with some good history based fiction. I'm pretty sure I own every L'Amour book. I should probably work on reading them.

Do you pick the book or does the book pick you? I knew I wanted to cleanse the palate with classic fiction. Thought maybe Hunchback or Princess Bride (maybe only the movie is classic😁). My eyes landed on this. Lightbulb. Plus my 11 year old daughter wants to read it. She's developing a taste for classic literature.(She loved P&P). Here's to having the book pick you to read it.
It's wonderful to find something that reinforces ideas you've already started implementing in your life. This book preaches a life where the attention economy is deprived of your attention. No social media on your phone. Limit the time you do access. Choose high quality news sources only including a newspaper.Your time=their money. Take back your time. Suggestions of how are given throughout the book. Take the time to read this and apply it.
Though a heady read for a "layman", this book excellently vindicates Paul from the traditional interpretation of 1 Corinthians 9. Paul was a Torah observant Jew and remained as such with each group. An excellent addition to the growing body of new Pauline studies.
Way too much noise and easy access that steals my time. Looking forward to this one.
I'm giving it a so-so only because of its repetitiveness. The principles laid out in it are practical and can be implemented, though it may take effort to win the family. It is worth reading, but beware of the repetitive nature chapter to chapter.
3 words have been ringing in my head: Simplify. Focus. Intentionality. I started this today and was confronted by all 3 of those words in the opening pages. Coincidence? I've actually started a purge in my home. Y'all would be shocked at how many books I've donated to Goodwill.😁 Here's to getting minimal.
Thermopylae. The Hot Gates. Gates of Fire. I'm actually having issues figuring out how to loudly exclaim the excellence of this work. It explores what drives the warrior to make the ultimate sacrifice. Spoiler alert: love. A worthy trip into the heart and soul of a warrior and those who aspire to be. Don't let this pass you by.
Slight blood sugar issue in the family. Been watching her YouTube videos. Super interesting.
If you have an interest in how our government has become so entrenched in our economy and eroded our private rights, this is your book. It is eye opening to see how they've done it and how so many went along.
How did we get "Big Government"? This is going to be heady and informative
This had the information I was looking for about the various oils. The recipes are probably not "beginner" level, but nice references for what is possible. Excellent reference.
Just started this and I'm wondering how I am not going to underline everything.....
I don't think this was or is the best book on soap making. There is just enough information to whet the whistle. It left me wanting more information on the process, ingredients, etc.
I think the last few months or years have had a theme of skill building in older practices. This will fit well.
Ryan Holiday has a knack for making philosophy liveable. The concept presented here is attainable but takes presence and work. An excellent read.
I think this may be quite appropriate for the times we are in.
The title of lunatic farmer is one Mr. Salatin wears proudly. This book lays out his philosophy of farming. In hip language, he is old-school. His ways, though modernized, hearken to the days before modern fees lots and industrial farms. It's following nature's patterns. I enjoyed this book immensely. The only nit-pick is that it could use some pro editing. That is easily ignored. Excellent and fun read.
Been on my radar a while. I think sometimes I might be a lunatic for doing what I do on my little urban homestead.
An excellent portrayal of what true masculinity is and the art of "living free and dying well." This reminds me of Eldredge's Wild At Heart but grittier coming from a former Ranger. For you men who seek to overcome the perverted view of masculinity prevalent in this society, this is the book.
I'm so stoked to read this. In an age where masculinity is looked down on, books like this are an important reminder of what true masculinity is.
A great introduction into a rapidly expanding field of research and application. Who knew that plants NEEDED bacteria, fungi, nematodes, and protozoa to thrive? Time to set aside all the dangerous chemicals and team up with the soil food web. Nobody ever fertilized an old growth forest.s
Recommended by so many gardeners. Let's read it.
An excellent resource on pursuing true organic ways. There is information that goes beyond the needs of a home gardener but sparks ideas on how to do it better. The soil blocking and transplanting chapters are worth the book price. If you garden, put this on your shelf.
Took me just over 4 months to read. It was worth every moment. I never once thought of stopping. Washington is definitely presented in a manner worthy of his place in history. He was a man driven by principle and quite fallible as a human. This is also an excellent study in leadership. Get it.
I'm not one who reads multiple books at a time, but I'll make an exception for this one. Still reading Chernow's Washington with just under 300 pages to go. I'm working on changing my front yard to all garden. I need all the help I can get.
The title intrigued me. I heard about this book from Sue Becker of Bread Beckers. I already follow the dietary laws of the Scriptures, but it was good to see the medical proof showing the toxicity of "unclean" meats. Eating food as close to its natural state is vital. As a gardener, I found this statement to be an answer to a prayer: " Working and sweating to raise a garden.....is worth your effort." Informative and worth your time.
I've been slowly transitioning my diet. I already eat "kosher". I'm interested in what a medical doctor says in support of this.
When one steps back and understands the Jewishness of Yeshua (Jesus) and his culture, the words He spoke take on a different level of meaning. We cannot separate Him from the Torah and Jewish 2nd temple Judaism. This book shows Him in that light and brings new insight on His teachings. New in the fact that it places them in proper historical and cultural context. An excellent and challenging read.
I'm gonna dive into this #chunkster. 817 pages not counting acknowledgements, notes, bibliography, and index. Might be a while before y'all see me on here again.🤣🤣🤣
Another great volume from Ryan Holiday. I didn't think I had much of an ego until I read this book. Yeah, I have some work to do. It opened my eyes to the realization that even a little ego can be detrimental. This is practical Stoicism and will improve your life. Read it.
Looking ahead to 2024. These are my must reads for the year. That's 10 books I hope to glean much wisdom from.
I want to feel bummed. 2 years in a row I haven't met my challenge. Considering the quality of books I read, I am happy with what I did read. Of course, I spent a lot of time tending my garden. So, all is not terrible. My favorite read this year was Ann Raynd's "Atlas Shrugged". What about you?
A concise and informative read on the power of journaling. It explains many common journaling techniques and the benefits of each. If you are journaling or considering it, this is a valuable book to have.
It's been an interest. I do some journaling. Let's see what an expert says. I'll take all the help I can.
I wish I had read this sooner.
I give it 4 stars only because it seemed to be a bit overwritten. For me, much of the information could have been summarized instead of fleshed out as deeply as it was.
We are in the 4th turning. Much of what the authors say is possible is proving prophetic. It's scary.
Worth reading.
History is cyclical. This explains the cycle. Looking forward to this.
Many told me this was a sad, dark, and a bleak book. I won't disagree. I also would agree with author Ryan Holiday who calls it the greatest parenting book ever written. That is what struck me deeply. This was a book about fighting for your children. It is about undying love and the strength of the human spirit. McCarthy lights up his dark world with the brightness of love. Excellent read.
I've been warned this book is a must read but will be hard. I look forward to a book that moves me to my soul. Let's see.
I initially thought that this book left me wanting more out of it. I realized that the more I wanted would only be found in me applying the principles in the book. I forgot that philosophy, moreover Stoicism, involves personal responsibilities and action. I can control me and nothing else. I've been given the principles and examples. The rest is up to me. Excellent read.
I subscribe to The Daily Stoic YouTube channel and his newsletter. Stoked to read this.
In this world where children are being bombarded with sex, perverse ideologies, and absent fathers, this book is a cry from the walls for dads to step up and in. We have to engage. We are (outside of the heavenly Father) the role model for their future husbands. We have a direct effect on the course of their life. Be there. Fight for your daughter. Great resource for any dad.
I watched the movie on PureFlix. I cried. I have 3 girls. I'll take all the help I can get!
I can't even begin to review this book. This one has left me in awe of Shackleton and his men. The grit and determination they had to survive and get back home approaches superhuman. No, it goes beyond superhuman. This is a book for the ages. Excellently written using historical documents, crew diaries, and interviews. Stop what you are reading and read this.
I finally decided what to read next. I had 10 choices. Narrowed it to 3. This one kept calling. Ya just have to listen to those inklings.
This was definitely one of the best classics I've read. I'm trying to determine what and how I feel about the story. It definitely impacted me. My mind is turning it over and over. Tragedy of course. Misguided love. Depravity of human nature. Triumph of the soul. All these things. 3 words: I loved it. Read it
Classic. What more needs said? Second time with this one. Let's see how it impacts me at this point in my life. Books like to do that. The words stay the same but our view changes.
