I'm not one who reads multiple books at a time, but I'll make an exception for this one. Still reading Chernow's Washington with just under 300 pages to go. I'm working on changing my front yard to all garden. I need all the help I can get.

The title intrigued me. I heard about this book from Sue Becker of Bread Beckers. I already follow the dietary laws of the Scriptures, but it was good to see the medical proof showing the toxicity of "unclean" meats. Eating food as close to its natural state is vital. As a gardener, I found this statement to be an answer to a prayer: " Working and sweating to raise a garden.....is worth your effort." Informative and worth your time.

I've been slowly transitioning my diet. I already eat "kosher". I'm interested in what a medical doctor says in support of this.

When one steps back and understands the Jewishness of Yeshua (Jesus) and his culture, the words He spoke take on a different level of meaning. We cannot separate Him from the Torah and Jewish 2nd temple Judaism. This book shows Him in that light and brings new insight on His teachings. New in the fact that it places them in proper historical and cultural context. An excellent and challenging read.

ManyWordsLater Tell me more 2mo
BookDadGirlDad @ManyWordsLater There has been a great separation of Jesus from the Hebraic roots of the faith. Modern Christianity disregards the cultural and religious context of 2nd Temple Judaism. This, what we have is a Hellenized faith that disregards the foundation Jesus taught 2mo

Another great volume from Ryan Holiday. I didn't think I had much of an ego until I read this book. Yeah, I have some work to do. It opened my eyes to the realization that even a little ego can be detrimental. This is practical Stoicism and will improve your life. Read it.

I want to feel bummed. 2 years in a row I haven't met my challenge. Considering the quality of books I read, I am happy with what I did read. Of course, I spent a lot of time tending my garden. So, all is not terrible. My favorite read this year was Ann Raynd's "Atlas Shrugged". What about you?

kimmypete1 1. Never feel bad if you missed your reading goal, especially if the books were good! 4mo
kimmypete1 2. You can totally change the number of books your goal is. Reading is fun and you shouldn‘t have to feel disappointed for not hitting your goal. 4mo
Aims42 My total books read this year was less than I was expecting, but I did finish Stephen King‘s 800+ page “11/22/63”. Totally worth giving up a few other books to read that one 👍 4mo

eeclayton I met my goal but there were some really short books in the mix. I agree that it's not the numbers but the experiences that count. 4mo

BookDadGirlDad @kimmypete1 Truly not bummed. The quality of the books I read this year more than made up for the quantity miss. I've made a turn in my reading choices and it's worth it. 3 books on my read list next year: Washington (by Chernow) Federalist Papers, and Anti-Federalist Papers. That's a lot of meaty reading 4mo

A concise and informative read on the power of journaling. It explains many common journaling techniques and the benefits of each. If you are journaling or considering it, this is a valuable book to have.

I wish I had read this sooner.

I give it 4 stars only because it seemed to be a bit overwritten. For me, much of the information could have been summarized instead of fleshed out as deeply as it was.

We are in the 4th turning. Much of what the authors say is possible is proving prophetic. It's scary.

Worth reading.

Many told me this was a sad, dark, and a bleak book. I won't disagree. I also would agree with author Ryan Holiday who calls it the greatest parenting book ever written. That is what struck me deeply. This was a book about fighting for your children. It is about undying love and the strength of the human spirit. McCarthy lights up his dark world with the brightness of love. Excellent read.

I initially thought that this book left me wanting more out of it. I realized that the more I wanted would only be found in me applying the principles in the book. I forgot that philosophy, moreover Stoicism, involves personal responsibilities and action. I can control me and nothing else. I've been given the principles and examples. The rest is up to me. Excellent read.

In this world where children are being bombarded with sex, perverse ideologies, and absent fathers, this book is a cry from the walls for dads to step up and in. We have to engage. We are (outside of the heavenly Father) the role model for their future husbands. We have a direct effect on the course of their life. Be there. Fight for your daughter. Great resource for any dad.

I can't even begin to review this book. This one has left me in awe of Shackleton and his men. The grit and determination they had to survive and get back home approaches superhuman. No, it goes beyond superhuman. This is a book for the ages. Excellently written using historical documents, crew diaries, and interviews. Stop what you are reading and read this.

This was definitely one of the best classics I've read. I'm trying to determine what and how I feel about the story. It definitely impacted me. My mind is turning it over and over. Tragedy of course. Misguided love. Depravity of human nature. Triumph of the soul. All these things. 3 words: I loved it. Read it

Yes. To summarize the book in one quote, "....but in the heart of every man is a desperate desire for a battle to fight, an adventure to live, and a beauty to rescue." I couldn't agree more. I've always thought philosophy was more out of reach for the common man. All theory and no substance. Then, along came stoicism and proved me wrong. Meditations is about living your life as you should. It's about doing. My favorite quote: You could leave life right now. Let that determine what you do and say and think. Read this book. I'll be reading it again...soon.

Rory Vaden takes "time management" one step further into time MULTIPLICATION. It is about creating margin in our lives through doing the significant tasks and giving ourselves permission to do the things that matter. Although written from a mainly business standpoint, the final parges drive home that this is also easily applicable to our lives. Excellent and profound.

This book is full of great insight to a different mindset than most of us likely have. Wealth is not necessarily the big mansions and multiple vacation homes. It is more of a freedom to live how you want and not for those who take the money you worked for. This is a book well worth reading and reading again.

There are those in modern Christianity who teach God brutalized and murdered His own Son on the cross. This book takes that premise and shows it for the heresy it is. Dr. Bar lays out an excellent and Scriptural argument against this. This book is an eye opener to who killed the Messiah and why it was allowed to happen. (Tagged is not this book)
