I‘ve had this book sitting on my shelf for ages, so finally decided to dive in. The story definitely went places I wasn‘t expecting and was, frankly, shocking at times. That said, the book is almost entirely dialogue that rips along with a twist at the end. Fair warning, the main character is misogynist and vile and his dialogue is too. It wasn‘t a perfect book, so a low pick. #europacollective
This book starts with our narrator having kidnapped an astronaut he once “knew” and becomes part character study and part commentary on our current world. It‘s entirely told in dialogue, which I found to be an interesting structure. I read this in one sitting and found it intriguing. I think it‘ll sit with me for a while.
“It looked carefully at the toys. None of the toys was the one it was looking for. The hoctopize showed the toys a picture of its Cuddles who was lost.”
This is a very cute story that ties supernatural elements of aliens and UFO‘s into a childrens book. The toys experience outer space for the first time and encounter an alien.
This is a story about a bunch of toys that get left outside overnight, and they see the stars and space for the first time. They then see a spaceship coming down and it sucks the toys up into it. The “hoctopize” alien comes out looking upset and does not see the toy it was looking for. They all have a party in space and convince hoctopize to let all of the toys go back home.
Amelie Nothomb is a bad, bad girl. And an evil author. And a very dark sense of humour. This book is one of the most venomous I've read by her so far. Means - I love it. I've had so much fun observing how the characters interact with each other, how they both try to drag the other down. Do they care about what the reader thinks about them? Not all. Does Nothomb care? Nope. And that's what makes her so special.

Another great book by Jory John. I think it would be fun to play spot the difference with the kids on this page. #everybodybooks
Taking a break from yard work. It will be the hottest day of the week, so a good day to relax and read. Starting with my TBR library/picturebook pile. #summerbreak #teacherlife
