Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar | EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS

Tarzan and Jane are in their early(?) forties in this book. Jane is perfectly willing to shoot at invaders, but now she‘s escaped one kidnapper and has been kidnapped by an ape.

Tarzan thinks she smells vaguely familiar but apparently his amnesia comes with ape ADHD and he keeps getting distracted. You can tell it was originally published as a serial from the chaotic plot and constant cliffhangers, but this one definitely hits the absurd.

How can I resist a cheesy amnesia plot?

KCofKaysville @snapsnarlgrowl I loved it when I was about 12! Cheesy plots and all. 1mo
snapsnarlgrowl Right?! I got The Beasts of Tarzan and Tarzan the Terrible when I was about 10 years old. I‘ve been trying to start at the beginning and work my way back to Tarzan the Terrible, carnivorous triceratops and all! 1mo

Pitball might be my new favorite sport. It amazes me the sports some of these authors invent and I hate the fact I can‘t actually see them played in real life. Booktok does it again with another amazing fantasy series. Woola doesn‘t even mind being my kindle prop for hands free reading of it. #catsoflitsy #catswithbooknames #theprincessofmars #edgarriceburroughs #fantasysports

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description or reason for wanting to read the book. Some are old and some will be new. Don't judge me - I have a lot of books.

Found these in an old used bookshop yesterday. All Frazetta covers too. Sad that someone added shorts to the woman on the Escape to Venus cover tho. Given how long ago these were written, I guess the censorship shouldn't surprise me. I enjoyed the John Carter of Mars books I read by him. (Known as the Barsoom series.) Since these were written after those, they might be even better. #scifibooks #oldscifi #tbrpile

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Imagine being so disturbed by the female backside you have to draw shorts on a book cover?! 🙄 4y
bookishbitch @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I know. It's quite bizarre. 4y

A key historical event, a famous writer and a murder mystery all thrown together in this book. Enjoyable enough reads.

The People That Time Forgot | EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS
Pickpick

Caspak novel number 2. This story follows Bowen Tyler's secretary, Mr. Tom Billings on a harrowing rescue mission to the land that time forgot. I had a lot of fun with this one, reading Tom with the voice of John Wayne. Liberal with Burroughs' signature blend of adventure, dire peril, and romance. It is no wonder that he is a perennial favorite of teenage boys everywhere. Available wherever audio books are sold.

Alfonzo215 I've read Edgar Rice Burroughs but never this book. I've read his "Tarzan" books. I live in USA. Can you recommend a good book from India? I just finished reading "Sycamore Row" by John Grisham. He's an attorney/author that writes legal fiction. I think his best novel was his first book "A Time to Kill". Hollywood made a movie from the book. (edited) 6y
Suchethaaahh I have read Tarzan books as well, good time pass. I like the imagination of Mr.Rice. Plenty creativity in the one posted as well. 6y
Suchethaaahh Would recommend "White Tiger" from Aravind Adiga, please share your thoughts on how you liked the book if you get a chance to read it. 6y
Alfonzo215 Great! Thank you for the recommendation. I will definitely post an opinion if I read it. 6y
Tkgbjenn1 Grew up reading his Tarzan novels. 5y

Mehso-so

Ehh. Like much early sci-fi, it is unintentionally hilarious based on our knowledge today. It is also disheartening because the author's imagination doesn't extend to making a society where women actually have autonomy 🙄

tournevis I love Bouroughs. He's amazing and so very reflective of the period. He was such a racist and the casual sexism was quite something, even if he was much less so than a lot of other writers of the time. Barsoom had very strong independant women considering. 6y
rabbitprincess @tournevis I'll have to read Barsoom then! 6y
tournevis @rabbitprincess The Mars books. The first is tagged. 6y
rabbitprincess @tournevis Oh good, that one is on my to-read list on Serial Reader! I shall have to get to it sooner rather than later. 6y
