pickAh, I revisited this read because of a reading challenge my cousin gave me to reread a book I hated in HS. How could I possibly have understood this book when I was 14 or 15?! And my god, I love it now. It was incredibly well researched, the writing was brilliant, and the storytelling style was original and fresh. It‘s a contender for best read of 2025.
pickFinally, I read this book too. I have seen the movie multiple times so there was no surprise is the novel. I really like this story but somehow I never liked the relationship between Sajuri and the president.

pick⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ yes that‘s a 6/5. I could not put this novel down. What a captivating story and eloquently written. I could nearly smell the air, envision the colors and scenes and feel the emotions throughout. The writing contained so many poetic figures of speech, I was stunned at the artistic way the author portrayed the story and brought it to life.

The novel tells the story of a fictional geisha working in Japan before and after WW2.
Willard Hotel June 2 around 2:00 I heard #antihero in the lobby. Around 2:15 I turned a corner and came upon this kimono in a hallway. #volumesandvocals
pickThis book had been on my TBR for more time than I would have cared to admit!
It has made me clear all my misconceptions of geisha in general....this is definitely not a light read but I'm glad to have finally read it.
pickI read memoirs of a Geisha a long time ago. This book is a memoir of the Geiko who inspired that story. I don‘t remember much about it, but other than being fictionalised he did a fairly good job of being faithful (though I do think their was some confusion between the Geisha and the girls in the pleasure district still).
While I would have liked this to be a bit more in depth, I definitely learned a lot about the topic!
