Panorama of Hell | Hideshi Hino
post image
Pickpick

Panorama of Hell is dark, grotesque, and read. Hideshi Hino does not shy away from showing us the weirdest, most hideous, evil, and disturbing images of his irredeemable characters. The story is about a painter who likes to paint with blood to paint the most evil visual representation of hell anyone has ever seen. It delves into the depths of human depravity and presents a bleak and unfiltered view of Hell as seen through the eyes of Hino.

A very quick read, this beautifully photographed collection of stone creations is prefaced by a quick Stephen King essay about gargoyles. Within, King examines (from a decidedly unscholarly perspective) our history and obsession with gargoyles in architecture, as well as our failure to notice their existence in countless buildings throughout the US. As King says, look closely, because even when you don't see them...they are watching you. 5/5

dabbe LOVE your photo! 😀❣️🤣 1y

How often have you done it? You catch yourself seeing something for the first time, even though you‘ve walked past it a million times, seeing yet unseeing. Did something just move, ever so slightly, in your direction? Did it move because you noticed? Or did you notice because it moved? I love the thought of a world existing within our world, visible and invisible, the comfortable, safe world we think we know so well. Until we look too close.

Gargoyles are just as creepy as clowns. Full stop.

Curiouser_and_curiouser I'd rather gargoyles.... clowns freak me out! 3y

Lord Foul's Bane | Stephen R. Donaldson

“As he stepped across the threshold, Covenant's nostrils were assaulted by a pungent reek, a smell like that of rotten flesh lying in a latrine. It defied mere carbolic acid and ointments to mask it. It came from a shrunken figure sitting grotesquely on the white bed. Slowly the patient raised his arms as if to embrace Covenant. His hands were swollen stumps, fingerless lumps of pink, sick meat marked by cracks and ulcerations...” #grotesque

rwmg A friend of mine fainted on a bus when he read that passage. Since I was the one who recommended the book to him, I did feel guilty (edited) 5y
