H is for Hawk | Helen Macdonald

Pickpick

Helen faces 2 life-changing events at once:sudden death of her father & lifelong dream of training a goshawk. Her emotional struggles were like my own after losing my father suddenly‘, making this book very special to me. Wished she had stuck with her story (not on to White‘s failure at falconry.)The rawness of grief and the strange ways we try to heal hit home. A perfect read for a nature lover and/or someone with unresolved losses. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Oh My! This is the second great, wonderful book, that I‘m reading in a row (all because of Litsy, BTW) and I am becoming anxious about whether I can keep this up. What should I read next? What happened to mindfulness so I can enjoy what I am reading right now. Oh My!

(I know what the “House of Silk” is 😳

dabbe You're farther along than me! I just started a couple of days ago and am loving it so far! 🧡🍁♥️ 2mo

This is one that's always on my radar but never made it to TBR pile. Until book club picked it!
I didn't enjoy it as much as I'd anticipated. I wasn't keen on TH White biographies, I'd rather read about her life, and her late father's.
Her prise on landscape and country was beautiful.
I struggled with the taming of Mabel as it's not something I support and see it as cruel.

mcctrish I read this just after my dad passed away and I loved it 2mo
MrsMalaprop I read this years ago for book club too. 2mo

“There is a hawk that is my brother so I have a special power.“

This book could be used to discuss the importance of freedom and respecting nature. We could discuss these aspects by looking at the valuable lessons the boy learned from the hawk. Then, we can discuss how these messages connect to the students' lives.

Hawk, I'm Your Brother is a traditional literature book by Byrd Baylor published in 1977. This book is a folktale and a Caldecott Honor recipient. It fits in this category because it tells the tale of a boy who dreams of flying and feels a deep spiritual connection with a hawk. This book blends realistic elements with mythical/symbolic themes.
