We approached our latest book selection episode the way you'd approach a buffet. Taking a little of each item that suits your fancy. We wound up choosing a wide array of essays and short stories to read and we learned some new things about each other. Like the fact that Peter has never seen a John Wayne movie. Enjoy!

pickMy first novel by Hunter S. Thompson and I really liked it. The story of debauchery and ineptitude at a low rate newspaper agency in the early days of Puerto Rico‘s statehood. Lots of boozing and lounging until a violent act throws this story into something unexpected. #ReadingTheAmericas23 #PuertoRico #USVirginIslands

so-soThis book intrigued me as I‘m interested in the psychology of gangs and how they function. Around 1965, Hunter S. Thompson spent about two years hanging out with the Hell‘s Angels motorcycle gang. This was a time period in which the Hell‘s Angels were in their relative height of mayhem, violence, and destruction. This book didn‘t provide what I was hoping to learn. #MountTBR

Currently listening to this one. Did not age well.
We are all alone, born alone, die alone, and—in spite of True Romance magazines—we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely—at least, not all the time—but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.
