Bailedbailed

*Sigh* My second bail of the month. I'm sure this may be interesting to some people, but the first handful of "life lessons" discuss how they decide to wear their hair, what kind of glasses to buy, and what gender to select on their health monitoring app. Not exactly riveting reading for me. I guess it provides insight into the decision making of an intersex person, but that is not what I'm in the mood for now.

This was a solid installment in the Wayward Children series. I enjoyed the world in this story, I just felt that it rushed through the ending. I will still continue to read these lovely little novellas. 4⭐️

This is a brilliant book, I really enjoyed it. A collection of essays by nineteen trans, non-binary, agender, gender-fluid and intersex writers, describing the multi-faceted ways they find joy in simply being themselves.

A couple of weeks ago, on the anniversary of Foucault's death, the garden of his family home was open to the public, as was his office, & 2 short plays, including the premiere of the 1 based on the tagged book, were given for free. I was there, but as photos were not allowed, there's no proof 😊. I enjoyed the play, and am now reading the book. It contains Herculine's own account of her life as an intersex person in the 19th century.

Dilara ⬇She was brought up as a girl, was outed & forced to live as a man after puberty, and committed suicide very young. Also contains an introduction by Foucault, various medical and legal documents related to the case, a scabrous short story by Oscar Panizza inspired by their life, and a postface by Eric Fassin, an academic specialising in gender & sexual orientation. 7mo

4/5

A really interesting book about Pidgeon's experience of discovering they were intersex at age 18. This was a hard, but incredibly educational read about both Pidgeon's experience and the experience of so many intersex children.

Took me a while to get to it, but thanks @peanutnine for this #auldlangspine rec @monalyisha

peanutnine Glad you enjoyed it! It's definitely eye-opening 7mo

Perfect for fans of Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, and reminiscent of Circe's trauma-infused storyline, Icarus is a poignant YA reimagining of the ancient myth, weaving together a tale of love, loss and friendship. The style of the prose is sparse yet poetic, unconventional, and incredibly raw, warming and breaking a heart in equal measure. Bursting with cinnamon-roll characters, positive masculinity...

TheIntrovertedDodoBird and beautiful platonic relationships; this novel has stolen my heart. Ancrum braids heavy material with cosy feels flawlessly. The friendships were truly beautiful and so positive; I loved how supportive they all were. The romance was divine; Icarus and Helios were fated, star-crossed lovers, and their relationship was cathartic and built on such a pillar of thrust that it was breathtaking. The representation in this novel was wonderfully... 9mo
TheIntrovertedDodoBird executed; featuring queer, intersex and disabled characters, not to mention domestic violence, substance abuse and grief. I almost wept when I finished it. Honestly, it's been a long while since I've wanted to go straight back to the beginning upon turning the final page, and I'm already wishing I could read it for the first time to experience all the nerve-wracking, cathartic thrills and sentiments. The cover is so pretty! 9mo
