Such a lovely and important book. It was so wonderful to read. I felt like the ending was a bit abrupt and nothing was really “over.” That May be that I‘m not the intended age group for this book, but we read it for a book club. I think we need more books like this, not just for our children but for adults as well. We need these windows into other experiences, in other places, to end the fear and bigotry that exists in the world.

Again, I don‘t think any child reading this book will have trouble understanding this, but it‘s really important for all of us to learn and relearn this truth.

I love this. It is so profound, but I really don‘t think any kid who reads it will be confused by it. It‘s a great concept to bring to kids as early as possible, but also really important for us adults to hear and understand.

I love this continuous rhythm of “both sides of the ocean.” It started in the dedication and continues throughout. It‘s a lovely sentiment that ties Jude‘a new life in America, the baby‘s life in America, to their roots and family in Syria.

I looked at the ToC and thought there was NO way I would ever be able to read the whole thing by Friday. That was an hour ago, now I‘m 52% of the way through. I am inhaling this book. I love it. I just want to hug Jude...and I‘m worried for her brother, too. I could stay up the rest of the night and finish this book, but I might regret it in the morning.

YES YES YES. I loved this book so so sooooo much. I would say it's probably one of my favourite books ever. I loved the characters so much - I literally decided that I wanted to call my children Aysel and Roman after reading. The book perfectly touches on depression, how soul crushing and debilitating it can be. PLEASE READ.
