Hello #Pemberlittens friends! I‘ve made the difficult decision to end our #JaneAdjacent buddy reads starting in May. Or at least to end my role in hosting them. I‘ve found recently that I‘ve overcommitted myself on Litsy and in real life and I need to step back. I‘ve so enjoyed our discussions and the books we‘ve chosen that have brought us back into Jane‘s world. If anyone is interested in taking up the mantle, you have my blessing!

mcctrish It‘s so easy to do. I‘m so sad but I‘m so happy I got to hang out with you for a brief while 3d

BarkingMadRead Awwwww that‘s a bummer, but I totally get it! If I wasn‘t already hosting a couple others I would take it over! 3d
Sace While I was not part of the reading I totally understand the Litsy overwhelm! There are so many fabulous activities here and it‘s hard not to overdo. 3d
Librarybelle Thank you for hosting this! I completely understand - I can barely keep up with all of the activities I‘m hosting and participating in. It‘s been a lot of fun. ❤️ 3d
Bookwormjillk Thanks for hosting! 3d
peanutnine Totally understand! Thanks for hosting for so long, we read some great books as a group ☺️💕 3d
Gissy So sad but understandable. I‘m always behind in my readings so I will spend these months to read all your recommendations😃Enjoy your reading time and enjoy🤗Thank you so much for hosting all these buddy reads 🥰♥️♥️♥️ 3d
willaful It's been really fun! I hope you can find more balance in your life; it's so easy to take on too much here! 3d
CatLass007 You do you. You have done an awesome job hosting this and so many other buddy reads. ❤️ 3d
IndoorDame Thanks for taking this on for so long. You‘re awesome! I‘m glad you‘re looking out for yourself ❤️ 3d
CogsOfEncouragement I have great appreciation for the fun way you host, as well as deep respect for this decision. 💟 3d
rubyslippersreads I‘m sad it‘s ending, but happy that I‘ve learned of so many wonderful #janeadjacent books. Thanks for being such a great host. ❤️ 3d
julieclair This has been a wonderful ride and I will miss it. But I totally get the overwhelm. I, too, suffer from what my husband calls “overcommitment syndrome “. 🙃 Thank you for the time, effort and heart you have put into hosting us. 😍🥰 (edited) 3d
CrowCAH Thanks you so much for heading up the buddy reads! 😘 Totally understandable about commitment; lots of book clubs! Take it easy! 3d
quietjenn Thanks for all you've done! Take care of yourself. 3d
daena Thank you so much for all you‘ve done! 3d
SarahBookInterrupted You did a great job so thank you for all the reads and congratulations on taking care of you! 3d
TheAromaofBooks I definitely get it!! Thank you for all the work you've put in on this little group - we've had some great reads together!! 3d
CatLass007 @BarkingMadRead Did you change your handle while I was on hiatus from Littens? Did you used to be @BarkingMadRuns? 3d
BarkingMadRead @CatLass007 I used to be BarkingMadRun but I can‘t run anymore so i changed it 3d
CatLass007 I get that. If running is something you enjoyed, then I‘m sorry you can‘t run anymore. But you must be pretty memorable since I was off Litsy for about three years. 3d
Larkken Thank you for hosting as long as you did! I found some really fun books through this group - even if I also often overcommit to joining groups.🥰 I hope you find some breathing room! 2d
Crinoline_Laphroaig @StayCurious After I finished hosting last's years #JaneAndTheExcellentReadAlong both here and on Instagram, I hadn't planned on continuing. But my Instagram friend Claire asked me to host another. I didn't post about #12MonthsOfJane here because you were already hosting Jane Adjacent and that's what we are reading. But if you're good with it, I'll use the #JaneAdjacent tag and start sharing for any #PemberLittens who are interested. 2d
StayCurious @Crinoline_Laphroaig absolutely! That‘s totally fine with me 💜 2d

Help? Those of you who work with college students and new hires, who work in career development, and those who love learning… I have been charged with creating and delivering a 15 min program for college students on how to enhance “career-ready skills” — SOFT SKILLS! I can do this, I am confident in my ability to facilitate such, but need to pick a topic FAST. Suggestions? 🧐😬😃

Nutmegnc I‘m not sure of specifics but I LOVE George Couros and his book the Innovators Mindset is also great. This touches on those 21st century skills that students need in the coming job market. I bet you could pick a topic from there. You might also bring in the ISTE standards for students. 3w
BkClubCare @Nutmegnc TY, I have to work it all up tomorrow. Thank you 😊 3w
wanderinglynn Adam Grant has some fantastic topics, like knowing what you don‘t know. 3w

Bookwormjillk Big topic in my office right now. I agree with @wanderinglynn that Adam Grant is a good place to start. 3w
bthegood college students - big things they need work on : eye contact, engaged and active listening, hand shakes - 🙂 3w
BkClubCare @Bookwormjillk @wanderinglynn - Thank you! That first story in Think Again, about the fire fighters, has stayed with me. 🌟 3w
BkClubCare @bthegood - a presentation on how to be present without being scolding could be a challenge 😂 Active Listening activities might be a good way to go. 🙏 (edited) 3w

Nothing wrong with these lessons, but for me they feel more intuitive. I will say that there was something kind of old fashioned and comforting about the advice that I did enjoy. It reminded me of the classes my father took for his company in the 70‘s and 80‘s. Dad is highly effective, so maybe it worked. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This one's been languishing on my bookshelf for years. I finally read it when it popped up March's #Bookspin. I found it underwhelming and the ideas mostly obvious. @TheAromaofBooks

TheAromaofBooks At least it's off the shelf!! 1mo

Like so many books of its type, there is some generally useful thought and a heck of a lot of filler. Should‘ve been 5-10 pages. It‘s aimed at leadership levels, I‘d be wary of anyone in leadership who got much out of it. One would hope that experience, self reflection and personal growth would have gotten you there. But then management are often some of the least capable people in an org. I wouldn‘t recommend wasting the paper this is printed on.

Thanks @Eggs for the #WondrousWednesday tag!🤗

1️⃣ The many things I learned from HB, the author of this book & one of my all-time leaders/mentors would take too much space but 3 are 1) Lead with your values & don‘t work for a company if your values don‘t match. 2) Put people over profits—a true leader serves people. 3) Build relationships & “trust banks” first.

2️⃣ Talent Development & Training

3️⃣ Independently wealthy bookstore owner! 😉

UwannaPublishme Yay on all 3…especially #3! 🙌🏻📚🙌🏻 1mo
Eggs Well done 👍🏼 #3 sounds great! 1mo
Kitta Oh yes a bookstore would be great! 1mo
DebinHawaii @UwannaPublishme @Eggs @Kitta I added the independently wealthy so I don‘t have to struggle & can enjoy it & all the books! 😉😆 1mo
Eggs @DebinHawaii Of course! 1mo

#MissMyDad @Rissreads
My dad wasn't much of a reader, but he was a fan of Stephen Covey's 7 Habits book, and I still think about both it and him when I'm working, even if it couldn't be further from my reading preferences. The odd thing is, I have all these bookish memories linked to him: 1) him wanting to buy me this expensive book when I was a kid but making sure I would read it (I never did), 2) me taking John Dean's memoir from his shelf 👇

Billypar and discussing the Watergate scandal with him while we were at the beach on vacation, 3) trying to find books he might like while bored in the hospital and settling on And Then There Were None, though I'm not sure if he read it. Even without reading much, he always talked about wanting to find the time to relax with a book. He was a sharp writer and a lover of song lyrics, so I think he would have loved reading given the right circumstances. 2mo

It‘s not every day a business book has us gasping, screaming, cheering, and laughing! Unreasonable Hospitality is part business memoir, part leadership manifesto, a mix of hospitality and humanism, management and magic. Guidara took a NYC restaurant from struggling to #1 in the world; here he shares the lessons he learned in those 11 years. This book makes you feel like you‘re part of that team and will leave you nourished and full of ideas!

What an incredible book. I made multiple notes that I‘ll take into my work. I am going to reread an ebook version so I can highlight and absorb more wisdom.
