These people are just not serious. A credit card spending limit of $1 for purchases and travel expenses?!?

As a #longtimefed I was under strict limitations about how I spent funds. To buy a box of paper or subscription to an academic journal or pay for a translation, I had to have approval from multiple people. Then, to have the bill paid, I had to submit several pages for each purchase.

FYI, the credit card was the required payment method.

Leftcoastzen Crazy ! 8h
Aims42 😳😳😳 This just sounds like piling on more paperwork and red tape? How does this fix anything?? 8h

Tamra We can expect some really quality service from the fed government here on out. 🙄 (edited) 7h
ImperfectCJ @Aims42 You've hit the nail on the head...they're not trying to fix things; they're trying to break things. It's just not clear why, except to make themselves the only other option so they can consolidate power (and contracts). 5h
Susanita @Aims42 A $1 spending limit is, of course, absurd. I guess he thinks he found some more fraud? There‘s always going to be someone trying to game the system, but those cases are very rare and the people get caught. That‘s why the people who don‘t cheat have to justify every purchase thoroughly. 5h

As a #longtimefed I served under 7 POTUS. I only voted for 3 of them, but I did my job the same regardless. I took an oath to uphold the Constitution when I first joined the government and every time I moved to another office. My employer was the American people and not POTUS.

Higher level managers and administrators are already political appointees. There‘s no need to root out the “disloyal” employees. The result would be the real “deep state.”

Chelsea.Poole Thank you for sharing. 2d
Leftcoastzen I worked as a contract worker for NPS & also a NPO connected to a historical park. This is insanity. All workers I knew could have made more money in private sector, service was part of the job that made it more meaningful! 2d
Leftcoastzen They are not hiring seasonal workers for places like Yosemite & Yellowstone which cannot function w/o them. Did not catch where , was listening to NPR . They didn‘t hire seasonal firefighters so a prescribed burn to protect wild/urban interface is abandoned. It was the only window to do the prescribed burn till next year , obviously raised risk for everyone. 2d

Susanita @Leftcoastzen You‘re kind of stealing my thunder for future posts 😉 but that‘s okay! I was pleased (if that‘s the right word under the circumstances) that some of the protests this week happened at NPS sites such as the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. 2d
Leftcoastzen Yosemite too! It‘s been many years so probably won‘t be stealing too much of your thunder! 😏 6k IRS workers, really?! 2d
Susanita @Leftcoastzen Laying off IRS workers in the middle of tax season! WTAF! They are the weirdest mix of unspeakably evil and unbelievably stupid. 2d
Leftcoastzen I hate the thought but starting to think the goal is totally break it , declare martial law . 2d

I think I need to clarify that I‘m a retired #longtimefed and not a current employee. I‘m writing these posts because I‘m angry and insulted that feds are being thrown so unceremoniously under the bus. Again. Sadly, this isn‘t new. It‘s just fed bashing on steroids…or ketamine.

Since Social Security is part of my pension BY LAW, I guess that makes me part of the “parasite class” now. I just want to sit under my own vine and fig tree.

kspenmoll I will be a “parasite” as well when I retire in 2 years. SS is a worry….figs! (edited) 3d
Suet624 Parasite here too. I worked so hard for years. I‘m so mad at these monsters. 👊🏻 3d
TheBookHippie Ketamine for sure. 😵‍💫 3d
TieDyeDude They've already accidentally fired bird flu specialists and nuclear scientist who they are now begging to return to work. They have no idea what they are doing. It is embarrassing. 3d
dabbe And it's only been 5 weeks. 😞 3d

I worked for the government for 35+ years at three different organizations. I‘ll come back to that later. As a #longtimefed I have a lot of thoughts about…all this. For a host of reasons I‘m reluctant to share much on “public” media for now, but I consider Litsy MY “safe space.”

I don‘t want to hurt anyone‘s feelings or make anyone uncomfortable, and I don‘t expect to change anyone‘s mind. If you want to ignore these posts, you can mute the tag.

Aims42 I would LOVE to hear/read your thoughts on these current events! Bring it on 🩷👍 4d
Tamra 👏🏾 My family has a long history of fed & state government service. Husband and I have made careers in state service. People don‘t seem to understand how society benefits. 4d

ImperfectCJ I suspect there aren't many people not affected by the cuts, even if they aren't federal employees/contractors. My dad was career military and has been a federal contractor since his military retirement. My spouse is in the biosciences, which rely on federal grants to fund drug discovery and not only further the development of life-saving medications but make the US THE place for scientists. The changes will have profound ripple effects. 4d
Susanita @ImperfectCJ @Tamra Absolutely. I‘ll get into this in my own way, but there are so many effects of these changes that will reverberate for a long time. 4d
The_Penniless_Author Another long-time fed here who would love to hear what you have to say. Hope you're hanging in there and weathering the storm as best you can. 4d
Susanita @The_Penniless_Author Thankfully, I retired a few years ago. Still, I can‘t help but notice what‘s happening with a bit of alarm. I hope you‘re hanging in there too! 4d
Suet624 Always happy to hear your thoughts. I was thinking this morning that our economy is so fragile and there are so many interconnecting parts to it. What they are doing right now to the economy alone is so dangerous. And of course there are so many other things to protest as well - health and safety and ... on and on and on. 4d
dabbe 👊🏻❣️👊🏻 4d
The_Penniless_Author Glad to hear you got out in time. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone is going to come out of this unscathed. I wish more people could understand just what's coming down the pike. Anyway, solidarity and best wishes to you and your loved ones. 3d

Happy Presidents‘ Day* to those who celebrate.

Some good ones who must be looking on in horror at what we‘ve become, and some bad ones who must be patting themselves on the back for their part in getting us here.

IMHO part of the job of President is respecting the people who work for you. ALL of them. In this time of “narratives over facts,” starting tomorrow I‘ll share a few narratives about my experience as a #longtimefed employee.

Susanita * The holiday is officially Washington‘s Birthday on the federal level. It‘s a little awkward, however, to wish someone a happy…someone else‘s birthday. By the way, we do NOT need an additional holiday for a certain someone‘s birthday. What is wrong with these people? 5d
Tamra That‘s a question without an answer. 😑 5d

AmyG Not my President‘s Day for me. Hope things work out ok for you as a federal employee. Scary times. (edited) 5d
Susanita @AmyG Thankfully I‘m retired, but I‘ve been following the shenanigans with alarm. 5d
