sebrittainclark Wait this is wild. Do you live in Lawrence? I lived there for 5 years, just moved away 2ish years ago. 3y
sydneyerin @sebrittainclark Yeah, I've lived here for about 5 years! That's so cool! 3y

Mehso-so

This was ok overall. Lots of parts were great. It skips around a lot in narrator and timeline which idyllic doesn't bother me, but this time it took me a while to keep everything straight. The effort to describe and condemn toxic masculinity was welcome and interesting, but I thought it was a little obvious sometimes. I also loved the very specific place names, being from #LFK

canbku Oh, and it was my July #bookspin! @TheAromaofBooks 4y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 4y
betsyhaddox Too bad about the obviousness of some of those gender issues. That can really dampen a book for me, too. Thanks for the review! 4y
canbku @betsyhaddox I really do recommend it for those moments because they are rare enough, but they sometimes sounded like they were almost a different voice from the person. The narrative was tough, though, because everything is recounted as though they are imperfect memories and they change as they get older... Never necessarily acknowledging their flaws but growing out of them when new life experiences change them 4y

I love a good family saga! Recommended by my hometown library #LFK #LPL because i loved the hearts invisible furies, so i hope it's very good! I'm just concerned that family sagas so often include tragedy or trauma befalling women, children, or babies...let me know if i should skip this one?

canbku This is my #doublespin! Took me two months to do my first one and this month I'm already on my second! Ebooks make the difference @TheAromaofBooks 4y
TheAromaofBooks Sometimes you just have to find the format that works best for you!! Hope this one isn't too tragic!! 4y
Lucy_Anywhere Is this based on the actual historical event? Because that did not go well... 4y
canbku @Lucy_Anywhere yikes! No, it appears not 4y

Completed #5. A book you meant to read last year. The library brought Nnedi to Lawrence in November, and I read every one of her books except this one. I love all her stories, and enjoyed this prequel to Who Fears Death. #BookSquadGoals2019 #LFK
