Blaire
Zeitoun | Dave Eggers

Pickpick

This book is a must-read. Eggers has an amazing talent for portraying someone's else's story with empathy and insight. Zeitoun, a Syrian immigrant and small business owner, stays in New Orleans during and after Katrina when his family evacuated. Covers the devastation of Katrina, how easily the freedoms we believe are guaranteed can break down, and islamophobia. #nonfiction #litsatoz #letterE #readeverywhere #lrc4

LeahBergen That was an amazing (and harrowing) book, too! 8y
ApoptyGina69 I loved this book! I adore Dave Eggers' work anyway, but this one in particular. 8y
Blaire @ApoptyGina69 me too. This book and what is the what are both favorites. 8y
Wife @Blaire I read that too! Great book, but what a nightmare! I work at a hospital and can't even imagine... 8y
Blaire @Wife @LeahBergen right? The decisions that had to be made, the lack of supplies, the miscommunication. I can't begin to imagine. 8y

Pickpick

This novel had been on my #ebookreader, and hence on my #TBR, for much too long.
It was slow at the start and I was about to give up, when it started to pick up speed.

Annoying were typos, repeated words, grammar slips, some strangely placed sentence stress.

3.5/5 stars

Which one to pick next? #LitsAtoZ

BookishMarginalia So many good choices! 8y
julesG @BookishMarginalia See, that's the problem. ;) Guess I'll just read the next Dr Dee novel and be done with it. 8y
