Mehso-so

Welp, this won the vote on my Scottish selections for my longest running book club—& it‘s most definitely the most sexually explicit book the club has ever read together in its over 15 years of existence! From the cutesy cover & shapeshifting plot, I didn‘t expect this enemies-to-lovers romance to be quite so graphic (he can‘t control turning into Nessie by night, but manages to turn some specific body parts into something more monstrous!😳).

TorieStorieS The plot‘s pretty predictable but it‘s a quick read— though I am not really sure what there will be to discuss! 2w
rubyslippersreads I 💚 Nessie, and had this on my TBR, but I don‘t think it‘s for me. Thanks for the warning. 2w
5feet.of.fury 😂 the cartoon covers will get ya 🦕🍆 2w

TorieStorieS @rubyslippersreads No problem— I did see the spice rating on Aardvark‘s site when I ordered it, but the other book with the same rating wasn‘t nearly as graphic, so I didn‘t hesitate to include it when I picked books to discuss! My mom is in this club too, so I handed over my copy with the same warning, haha!! 2w
TorieStorieS @rubyslippersreads Have you read any good Nessie books? This one and the last one were just not monstery enough! 2w
TorieStorieS @5feet.of.fury Indeed!! 😆 My mom and my teenage niece are in this book club as well as friends so it will be an interesting discussion (or a nonexistent one!) on Sunday! 2w
5feet.of.fury @TorieStorieS oh no! Lmao hope they aren‘t too scandalized. 2w
TorieStorieS @5feet.of.fury I was clutching my pearls on their behalf as I read! 😆 Well, I was actually laughing so loud about it that my husband came in from another room to find out what was so funny! Wish me luck for Sunday though! 2w
rubyslippersreads @TorieStorieS I‘ve only read one, but am definitely up for suggestions for more. 2w
TorieStorieS @rubyslippersreads oh, thanks! I‘ll have to check this one out! Other than the disappointing Monster, I also read Steve Alten‘s 2w

Oh man, I love a good #CreatureFeature but, unfortunately, this isn‘t it… Written in 1982, this hasn‘t aged very well… Despite the title, the “monster” plays a remarkably small role here. The body count is high, but the real villains are the oil executives & their security detail who murderously want the oil buried beneath Loch Ness before all else! I just wanted more monster & less eye-rolling induced telling rather than showing! Disappointing!

I hope that she somewhere she knows that I will take care of her family, that I will never take them for granted.
Because they‘re mine now too.

Pickpick

This was a really cute fantasy romance with some spicy scenes. I loved the setting (I‘ve always been a fan of Scotland and the Loch Ness monster.) The backstory added depth and believability as well. I‘d be curious to see what fans of Ali Hazelwood‘s Bride think, because I think the monster sex scenes in this book are much better (IYKYK).

The Water Horse | Dick King-Smith

At my school, the staff, children, and families read The Water Horse. For the past 20 years, we have also celebrated the arts and spring with Blooming Arts Day, which is always the day before our spring break. We paint, local bands perform. Appalachian storytellers come. It is truly a magical day that I look forward to each year. We also celebrate the children's writing.

Too much for one post. Please continue reading.

Butterfinger This year, we are combining the Water Horse, set in Scotland, with our last event. We have a wonderful show planned with bagpipes and singing. I have been asked to emcee. Can you help me out by providing me with some phrases that I can use? Or do you think it is mocking the culture if I even try? I love the words bairn, wee, laird, ken. Words I have learned from reading Thoene and the Outlander series. 4mo
Susanita I love the word “dreich” for dull, gloomy, dreary weather. 4mo
Butterfinger @Susanita thank you. That is a cool word. 4mo
