A woman discovers that not all monsters are her enemy--the opposite, in fact--in this new paranormal romance by Lana Ferguson, author of The Fake Mate. Keyanna "Key" MacKay is used to secrets. But repeating her father's mistakes and being rescued by a gorgeous, angry Scotsman--who thinks she's an idiot--is definitely the last thing she expects. Lachlan Greer has his own secrets to keep, especially from the bonnie lass he pulls to safety from the slippery shore--a lass with captivating eyes and the last name he's been taught not to trust. He's looking for answers as well, and Key's presence on the grounds they both now occupy presents a real problem. It's even more troublesome when he gets a front row seat to the lukewarm welcome Key receives from her family; the strange powers she begins to develop; and the fierce determination she brings to every obstacle in her path. Things he shouldn't care about, and someone he definitely doesn't find wildly attractive. When their secrets collide, it becomes clear that Lachlan could hold the answers Keyanna is after--and that she might also be the key to uncovering his. Up against time, mystery, and a centuries old curse, they'll quickly discover that magic might not only be in fairy tales, and that love can be a real loch-mess.

I actually really enjoyed this one, and I was not expecting it! A good mix of humour, monster smut and Scottish lore, I think this is a good book to pick up if you haven‘t quite branched out into this genre. While I‘d say it‘s tame, it also delivers on what you should expect 😉.

And a hot, grumpy Scotsman doesn‘t hurt.

Welp, this won the vote on my Scottish selections for my longest running book club—& it‘s most definitely the most sexually explicit book the club has ever read together in its over 15 years of existence! From the cutesy cover & shapeshifting plot, I didn‘t expect this enemies-to-lovers romance to be quite so graphic (he can‘t control turning into Nessie by night, but manages to turn some specific body parts into something more monstrous!😳).

TorieStorieS @rubyslippersreads No problem— I did see the spice rating on Aardvark‘s site when I ordered it, but the other book with the same rating wasn‘t nearly as graphic, so I didn‘t hesitate to include it when I picked books to discuss! My mom is in this club too, so I handed over my copy with the same warning, haha!! 2mo

This was a really cute fantasy romance with some spicy scenes. I loved the setting (I‘ve always been a fan of Scotland and the Loch Ness monster.) The backstory added depth and believability as well. I‘d be curious to see what fans of Ali Hazelwood‘s Bride think, because I think the monster sex scenes in this book are much better (IYKYK).

My first monster romance. Loch Ness monster romance. Loved it!! Key‘s father passed away so she goes to Scotland to scatter his ashes and meet his side of the family. She gets enrolled in solving a mystery.
