Sea Wife: A novel | Amity Gaige

Mehso-so

A husband decides to buy a boat and sail around the world with his wife and two small children. He‘s a bit of a jerk, and she‘s a hot mess. Throw in some storms, trouble with the boat, and a mysterious bad thing that‘s referenced in the current timeline…and you get a long winded ride to nowhere. Sometimes a dual timeline is fine, and sometimes you just want someone to get to the point. Also the last chapter is a total needle scratch.

Texreader Excellent review. I think I‘ll skip this one. 1mo
Reggie lol total needle scratch. I almost want to read this because of that. 1mo

Marriages have failure points, just like boats. . . . If you would rather not know the failure points, do not go sailing.

Pickpick

This was a thoughtful and thought-provoking novel. It was definitely a pick, but there were some things about it I'd have changed. The whole last section seemed disjointed and unnecessary. It was a small section, in a book that was good overall, but it left a bad taste since it came last.

After the End | Clare Mackintosh

Pickpick

After the End goes beyond Mackintosh‘s usual suspense thrillers; being a gut wrenching, heartbreaking story.

Impressively written, with hope and heartbreak aplenty. The narratives flowed seamlessly together, leaving a lasting impression.

This isn‘t an easy read, particularly as a parent. It is original and emotional. An exquisite story; a true display of Mackintosh‘s superb talent.

More interesting than I expected it to be! I enjoyed the alternating povs and the little realistic snippets of live. Great details everywhere!

1. A few years ago I saw a boat named Shadowfax, and I don‘t think I can improve on that.
2. I‘d want all the books on my TBR! Unless it‘s about trouble on a boat trip, such as the tagged book. (Just like not reading about a plane crash while flying.)

Adult Onset | Ann-Marie MacDonald

Mehso-so

🤔 Hmmmmmm, I‘m ambivalent about this one. The MC is coming to terms with the emotional fall-out of parental abuse & neglect, which is interesting as it is “adult-onset.” I thought she drew the parent characters really well. But, I was a bit frustrated with the length. Sometimes it felt repetitive or maybe a tad too wrought?

Pickpick

Four characters take turns narrating the secrets of their lives. Frank,a retired college professor and his wife, Lil have moved to North Carolina. Shelley is a single Mom raising her younger son,Harvey. Everyone has secrets. Shelly lives in the house where Frank was raised, and the house connects the stories. Beautiful writing. Multi layered. Sad and emotional. I am looking forward to my Book Club‘s discussion.

DivineDiana @Cinfhen Hi Cindy! The book was beautifully written, but I felt very melancholy after finishing it. I know Book Club discussion will enhance my understanding. Hope you are having fun on your travels! ❤️ 12mo
