Berries | Roger Yepsen
post image

Six different patrons today--six!--have referred to something called a "liberry". I'd like to know what this thing is ?. Is it a type of berry? I don't want to necessarily jump to that conclusion though; for example, pineapple is not a kind of apple. ??? #LitsyLovesLibraries

Laura317 Gosh, I sometimes might be guilty of this. I also sometimes forget Chicago has no “R” in it. #raisedcountry 6y
MrBook @Laura317 It doesn't bother me, it does put smiles on our faces at the library. 😊 6y

LibrarianRyan I had an intern we spent a week training to say libRARy instead of Liberry. She didn't last long. (edited) 6y
LibrarianRyan @Laura317 okay. Where would the R in Chicago go? I thought I had heard most pronunciations but now I'm stumped. 6y
LibrarianRyan It doesn't bother me when patrons say it but it does when staff say it. And I try to get to kids why they are still little. 6y
InLibrisVeritas I say that way, though I honestly try not to. It's how I learned to say it as a kid, but I'm working on it. I've fixed a lot of weird pronunciations over the years, even managed to tamp out my accent. 😆 6y
APLitlife My husband! 😆😆 6y
kricheal @LibrarianRyan I'm guessing it would be "Chircago", I don't honestly know though. My Grandma used to say warsh instead of wash and Warshington instead of Washington. 6y
OrangeMooseReads Its a berry that cannot tell the truth (lie-berry) 😂 .... @kricheal I have a grandma that does that. Had a friend that said troilet instead of toilet. And an uncle that says chimlee instead of chimney 6y
booksandsympathy That drives me crazy 6y
kricheal @OrangeMooseReads We might have had the same friend.😂😂😂😂 My friend also said ignurt(I don't know how to even spell it), instead of ignorant. 6y
Laura317 @LibrarianRyan “chiCARgo” and also like @kricheal ‘s grandma, also pronounce “Washington” as “Warshingtin” when I‘m not really careful. I try to speak correctly, but sometimes slip back into old habits. It‘s a gift. 6y
LibrarianRyan @Laura317 wow. I've been saying chicargo around the house and josh just begged me to stop 6y
introvertedbooks I say liberry and I work at one. 6y
Laura317 @LibrarianRyan 😂😂😂like I said, it‘s a gift! 6y
