Touted as a YA HF novel, I think it‘s more MG level, Scholastic book. Told from POV of Anastasia, these are diary entries which detail the story of Czar Nicholas and his family.

TheBookgeekFrau I bought this years ago for my daughter and ended up reading it myself. I loved it! Not sure if my daughter ever got around to reading it though 🤔😂 10mo
Eggs I learned something new: Then-Prince of Wales Edward (pre abdication, pre Wallis) had his eye on Anastasia‘s older sister Olga. I believe they were distant cousins. @TheBookgeekFrau 10mo
TheBookgeekFrau @Eggs The Royal world is a small world 👑😄 10mo
JenDR I read this earlier this year. Found it at a thrift store and thought it would be a good palette cleanser between other books. Really liked it and now am trying to track down the other ones in the series. 10mo
Eggs I didn‘t realize that Meyer had written so MANY books like this! @JenDR 10mo

I was hoping this was about the woman warrior in the tagged book, but it may be just as good. Good timing for #readingafrica2022

Based on the life of a real warrior queen, Nzingha fought the Portuguese over kidnapping her people to be slaves in #Angola. Brilliant idea and artwork, but the story wasn‘t executed as well. It felt more like an origjn story. The part about her being a warrior was so inconsequential at the end wrapping up most of her life in a catchall sentence or two. Most of the book is about her childhood, which was that she was the daughter of a wise king, ⬇️

Texreader to be succeeded by his chubby lazy eldest son. First, why did he have to be overweight and therefore lazy? And second, why must superwomen be described as such incorrigible selfish unlikeable girls? There were so many opportunities to tell an inspiring story and it missed the mark. Still a pick for telling the story in the first place and the gorgeous artwork. #readingafrica2022 @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB (edited) 2y

Texreader @Cinfhen Thank you! 2y
Texreader @BarbaraBB I just stopped to count and I‘ve read for 20 countries and I have 3 in the works right now. It‘s more than 20 books though as I‘ve read two books for Egypt, Madagascar, South Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, & Rwanda. I‘ve really enjoyed finding such diverse books for Africa. It‘s a great challenge this year (but aren‘t they all?) 2y
Librarybelle You‘re doing so well with the challenge! 2y

Texreader @BarbaraBB @GingerAntics @ju.ca.no @Librarybelle I wish the book told more of her story as a warrior queen. It sounds like she was pretty amazing. And look at the years she lived. Quite a success story for that era (or any era). 2y
GingerAntics @Texreader that is definitely not a woman‘s time to be powerful and awesome. 2y

Two of the 3 books I‘m reading right now are pretty depressing. So I thought I‘d throw this one into the mix. Since it starts with a kidnapping I‘m not sure whether this will just bring me down even more. But the illustrations are marvelous. So I‘ll cross my fingers and hope it‘s a lighter read (especially since it‘s a kid‘s book). #Angola #readingafrica2022 @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB
