The Vampyre | John William Polidori
Mehso-so

I've never read this one, but since Ruthven is a major character in the Greta Helsing books, I decided to read the source material (much as Vivian Shaw's Ruthven would hate that!).

I found it funny reading it as spite re: Byron. There's not a huge amount of literary merit here, but it's interesting to go back to a vampire touchstone.

Not sure what I'll read next via #SerialReader... maybe I can find something else seasonally appropriate.

Catherine‘s holiday at Bath seems to be all the better for her introduction to the Thorpe siblings. & then it‘s love at first sight when Henry Tilley enters the scene.

This was a sweet romance that also did a fantastic job of showing the difficulties of getting ensnared into a toxic friendship, as well as how important it is to find a partner who truly understands you. I would have liked more time @ Northanger & w/ Tilney & his sister.🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

Thanks for suggesting #serialreader @Soubhiville for #authoramonth! It divided the story into manageable chunks. The whole time I was reading, I could envision a movie made where the scene never cuts but follows one character to the next fluidly. I‘m sure I missed some of the nuances, but it was mildly enjoyable.

The story of the highs and lows of the four March daughters: Meg, Beth, Jo, and Amy.

I‘m still not sure how I made it out of an English degree without reading this, but I‘m kind of glad I came to it later. I don‘t think I would have appreciated the relationships between the sisters, or what we see of the March parents as much. There‘s a bit too much moralizing & women‘s duty is marriage/babies/emotional labor, but it is of it‘s time.🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

ChaoticMissAdventures This is the book that taught me the word priggish. Her constant moralizing was a real downer throughout. 6mo
mom2bugnbee My all-time favorite book. Isn't it wonderful that there are so many different books for so many different people? 6mo

I do understand! I was casually listening to my audiobook today when this line caught my attention. I had to find the passage in Serial Reader and share. I never would have caught this allusion without the experience of reading #Clarissa.

#1001books #SerialReader

Ruthiella I love it when that happens! 1y
Daisey @Ruthiella Yes! It also sometimes makes me wonder just how many allusions I‘m missing too. 1y
