#ThreeListThursday #TLT @dabbe
Well, this one oughta be fun! I'm such a sucker for book lists. 🤣
1. Survey link: https://www.listchallenges.com/1001-books-you-must-read-before-you-die-1700s
2. Share your score if you'd like.
3. Share your 3 favorites from the list or 3 that you might be interested in reading, or 3 you thought were horrible or a combo of whatever you'd like.
4. Tag a few!
Tagging Littens who played last week. 🤩

Librarybelle I got 16, but there are so many I‘m in the middle of but did not count because I did not finish them. Some I‘ve not heard of before and others are on my to read list. 😂 1w
BarkingMadRead 27 for me (I counted two that I‘m currently reading) 1w
lil1inblue Uh oh. This era does not bode well for me... 😂 1w

BooksandCoffee4Me Oh, 22 only! Jane Austen saved me on this one. So many I‘d not heard of but look interesting! Remembered how much I loved Woman in White. Thanks for the tag @dabbe 💛 1w
CSeydel Just 11. Not bad for a STEM major, though, right? … right?? 1w
CSeydel Probably another 11 on my TBR. But most of them I hadn‘t heard of 😔 1w
Amor4Libros I got 1…Moby Dick! 🤣🤣 1w
dabbe @Librarybelle 🎯🩵🎯 Most from the 1700s, I'm like 😳! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 1w
dabbe @BarkingMadRead Thank goodness for the #hashtagbrigade! We were able to count quite a few! (and I included MILL ON THE FLOSS since we will be finished soon). Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 1w
dabbe @lil1inblue 🎯🩵🎯! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 1w
dabbe @BooksandCoffee4Me #ditto! I adored WOMAN IN WHITE! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 1w
dabbe @CSeydel R.I.G.H.T.! 🤣😍🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 1w
dabbe @CSeydel 🎯🩵🎯! 1w
dabbe @Amor4Libros And I only read “Call me Ishmael“ and called it a day! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 1w
SaunteringVaguelyDownwards Got 22, which is not too bad for a Lit major focusing on contemporary texts! 1w
dabbe @SaunteringVaguelyDownwards I think you'll kick some serious ass as we move forward in years! 🤩 Thanks for playing and sharing! 🩵📚🩵 1w
willaful Only 20 for me! Would be a bit higher if I had participated in *all* the #HashtagBrigade reads. ;-) Nothing I especially want to read but certainly might if the brigade does them. :-) 1w
peaKnit I know face slaps are not allowed but @dabbe…I got 4 😂 thank gosh for Jane Austen. 1w
shortsarahrose I got 12, which is honestly better than I expected (thanks mostly to actually liking 19th century American lit - Melville, Hawthorne, Poe). Sorrows of Young Werther should count twice cause I read it in German 😆 (surprised that with three Goethe texts on the list, Faust wasn‘t one of them! I guess maybe because it‘s technically a play?) 1w
Bklover 18- thanks to #hashtagbrigade and Jane Austen. There are quite a few I hadn‘t even heard of! 1w
TheSpineView Thanks for the tag! 🥰💛🏷 1w
Bookwormjillk Lucky 13. Grateful for#PemberLittens and #HashtagBrigade 🤣 1w
Bookwormjillk @BarkingMadRead I definitely counted Mill on the Floss. We‘re almost done! 1w
Read4life Thanks for the tag!! 💙📚💙 1w
ChaoticMissAdventures Oh! It is too bad they couldn't find a few more 😂 thanks for the tag! 1w
Deblovestoread Thanks for the tag! I‘m going to get my book out before I do the survey as my memory was much better back then. 1w
Daisey @tpixie I went through and have read 39 (including currently reading Mill on the Floss). I‘ll have to watch for these the next few weeks. 1w
dabbe @willaful The #hashtagbrigade saved my sorry ass! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 1w
dabbe @peaKnit I think the only one I read from the 1700s was GULLIVER'S TRAVELS. The others I was like 😳. 🤣 We'll get better as the list moves forward a few years!
Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵
1w
dabbe @shortsarahrose Yep, I think plays don't count, though they should. And you should count it twice! I read COUNT OF MONTE CHRISTO in French, and I counted it twice. I needed all the help I could get! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 1w
dabbe @Bklover IKR? 1700s was like 😳!!! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 1w
dabbe @TheSpineView YW! 😍 1w
dabbe @Bookwormjillk IKR? Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 1w
dabbe @Bookwormjillk I did, too! 🤣 1w
dabbe @Read4life YW! 😍 1w
dabbe @Deblovestoread You have this book? How cool is that? I'm thinking of getting it! 😍 1w
dabbe @Daisey You beat my sorry butt! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 1w
AnnCrystal Thank You For The Tag 📚😉👍🏼💝. (edited) 1w
dabbe @AnnCrystal YW! 😍 1w
Lesliereadsalot Thanks for the tag but I can barely remember what I had for lunch let alone books from my far past! 🩷 1w
AnnCrystal Whispering again...👀...Zero!

I did watch many as movies, but it's been years.

1 - Carmilla. Long Time TBR book (I'm horrible, still need to read Dracula too).

Movies

2- North and South I saw one version of this many years ago and fell in love with the story

3- Orson Welles In Jane Eyre 💝💝💝.

📚💝.
(edited) 1w
melissajayne 17/100 1w
rwmg 39 including 2 I DNF-ed (Clarissa and Tristam Shandy).
1w
Eggs 6 🙀🙄!!! 1w
julesG I might have read 13 books from that list. 1w
julesG @shortsarahrose I had similar thoughts about Goethe and was wondering why a few others were missing. Them being plays might be the reason. 1w
Amiable I don‘t even care about my score —the fact that I could check off “Clarissa” caused me to shout “YES!!” and pump my fist in celebration. 🎉 ☝🏼😀 1w
tpixie 12. It said the average was 18! 1w
TheLudicReader Hahahahaha. 8. 1w
dabbe @AnnCrystal I adored OW as Rochester! That's my favorite version, too. Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 1w
dabbe @melissajayne Those 1700s! #oy 😳 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 1w
dabbe @rwmg You kicked my sorry butt! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 1w
dabbe @Eggs Thank goodness we're past the 1700s! I was like 😳 when I saw those books! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 1w
dabbe @julesG I was all about the “might“ on this list. 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 1w
dabbe @julesG I think you're right. 🎯 1w
dabbe @Amiable Is that like the longest book in the English language? I don't think I could even attempt--nor would I want to! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 1w
dabbe @tpixie Together we average 18.5, so we're good! 😍 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 1w
dabbe @TheLudicReader Reading with the #hashtagbrigade and loving Austen are the only two things that gave me a few more books. 1700s? #wtf 😳 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 1w
Amiable @dabbe It is the longest! I couldn‘t have gotten through it without the Litsy #Clarissa crew. 1w
dabbe @Amiable I barely made it through WAR AND PEACE, so I don't know if I could even fathom reading this one! Was the writing good? 1w
tpixie @dabbe I like your math! 7d
AnnCrystal @dabbe 🤩👍🏼😍🎬💝. 7d
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Only 8 from these. I should check a few of these out. I don't remember much about A Modest Proposal other than a one line plot description, but I know I thought it was clever. Wild that we read it in school. I enjoy Edgar Allan Poe, so those two are probably the favorites. I've seen Emma on film and read a graphic novel. I'm counting that in my tally because I've decided that Austen novels just aren't for me. 7d
dabbe This was me looking through the ones from the 1700s: 😳😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵💙🩵 6d
ImperfectCJ I'm late taking this quiz, but I got 21. I want to read Candide and The Sorrows of Young Werther. I've read everything by Austen so if there'd been a few more of those, I would have gotten a higher score. :-) 23h
dabbe @ImperfectCJ 🎯 re: Austen. I have WERTHER on my TBR, too! Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💚💜 23h
dabbe @RaeLovesToRead For pretty much all of the 1700 books, I was like 😳. Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💚💜 16h

Pickpick

Such melodrama! With hints of #Clarissa, except the heroine is less good. The villain is a caricature and the hero is not particularly appealing. But it did keep me reading and there were moments of humor, so I‘ll give it a weak pick. #readyourKobo @CBee

The fact that I now understand this reference when it randomly appears in books almost makes The Year of Reading #Clarissa totally worth it.

Almost.

😀

TheBookHippie Almost….. 😅 2mo
Amiable @TheBookHippie We have to take our wins from that experience wherever and wherever we can, am I right? 😄 2mo
TheBookHippie @Amiable I have read it in a few books now and I didn‘t keep my brick of a book an English major wanted it and I gladly parted with it. 😂 2mo

It‘s here! My #kobo came today, and I started East Lynn for my #readyourKobo I can‘t believe how light it is! @CBee
Getting definite #Clarissa vibes from this one, and I‘m only 3% in.

I do understand! I was casually listening to my audiobook today when this line caught my attention. I had to find the passage in Serial Reader and share. I never would have caught this allusion without the experience of reading #Clarissa.

#1001books #SerialReader

Ruthiella I love it when that happens! 9mo
Daisey @Ruthiella Yes! It also sometimes makes me wonder just how many allusions I‘m missing too. 9mo

#Wondrouswednesday Thanks for tag @Eggs @TheSpineView ! I was out of town Wednesday so a day late.

1) I ❤️ history so it‘s hard to go wrong with most any time period
2) Starter Villain ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
3) Tagged, 7th longest book in English according to:

Amiable #Clarissa is number 1! Wow, now the bragging rights are even bigger and braggier, @Lcsmcat @BarbaraJean 😀 (edited) 1y

“Fashionably late” to the party—thanks for the tag, @GinaKButler !

1. I have an affinity for the Revolutionary War-era and early America.
2. First read of 2024 was a biography of P.T. Barnum
3. I‘ve read most of the biggies: War and Peace, Les Mis, A Suitable Boy. But I think “Clarissa,” which I read last year with the esteemed #Clarissa group, beats them all at circa 1,800 pages.

#wondrouswednesday

GinaKButler I think I‘m going to tackle Clarissa next year. 🫣 1y
Amiable @GinaKButler I wouldn't read it again, but I'm glad I did it! I liked it better than “Les Mis,“ if that matters. 😃 1y
Amiable @GinaKButler @Texreader just posted a link that says “Clarissa” is the longest book in the English language! As a fellow committed chunkster, you know you‘ve got to do it now. 😀 1y

Texreader @Amiable The question I have…is it worth it? Is it a high pick? I‘ve never even heard of it. But I do love my chunksters… 1y
GinaKButler @Amiable I don‘t know if that‘s a glowing review. Les Mis was definitely not a favorite…😂 1y
Amiable @GinaKButler Ha ha, I know! That‘s why I threw “Les Mis” into the mix. 😄 Also, have you read this one? I adored it: (edited) 1y
Amiable @Texreader Is it a “high” pick? I‘d say no. Was it worth it, though? Yes, IMO. For a number of reasons —not the least of which are the bragging rights when you finally finish. 😀 Reading it with the #Clarissa group added a wonderful dimension to the experience— I‘d suggest a buddy read if you do decide to tackle it. 1y
Texreader @Amiable Very helpful. I‘ll check it out and see if I might be able to stick with it. You‘re the best. Thanks!! 1y
Amiable @Texreader Check with @Lcsmcat —she created a schedule for us last year that was very manageable. It was basically 50 pages per week, if I recall. We started it in January and completed it in October with group chats every Saturday. I thought that was very helpful in keeping the momentum going. 1y
Lcsmcat @Texreader If you want the schedule we used last year (and don‘t want to scroll through a years worth of #clarissa tags) send me your email address to mischalynx at msn dot com and I‘ll send it to you. I‘m not sure if it was better the way we did it , in small chunks with breaks, or if powering through would be better. But take friends - it can get dark in there. 😂 1y
