Wild Roses | Deb Caletti

Mehso-so

I‘ve been in such a terrible reading slump since mid-October and did enjoy most of Wild Roses. Probably my favorite out of the three Deb Caletti books I‘ve read so far, but I still get annoyed with the protagonists and their throwaway comments. I‘m still waiting for a Deb Caletti book that I love.

Happy Father‘s Day to all the dads, stepdads, uncles, grandfathers, older brothers, and all types of father figures!

1. Frostpine from Tamora Pierce‘s Emelan books
2. I called the doctor "My wife is going into labour! What should I do?" "Is this her first child?" she asked. "No, this is her husband."
3. This is an adorable picture book! ?

Since I read Hush again, I decided to revisit Bird as well. Angela Johnson is my favorite author. Of all her books I've read, Bird is the only one I read only once, and I was about 12. I remembered next to nothing.

It's not my favorite Angela Johnson novel. I'm not sure it was a great idea to have 3 different POVs in such a short novel; it sort of stunts development. Still, it was a poignant, touching book and I'm glad I read it.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Completely different from everything else I read. Yes, this was completely cheesy. But despite that, I absolutely loved this book. I was in the mood for a light, fluffy, cheesy book and that was exactly what I got. I really enjoyed watching this friendship blossom and listening to all of their quirky midnight conversations. It also had a nice message about family. I loved the short chapters, which helped the reading pace move along nicely.

Pickpick

When thirteen year old Bird‘s stepdad leaves, she follows him to his sister‘s house in Alabama, determined to convince him to come home. She can‘t decide how to approach him, so she hides in a shed and observes the family, hoping she can figure out the secret to their happiness. While she‘s in town, she becomes enmeshed in the lives of three lonely and grieving people.

Such a beautiful, uplifting little book.

Centique This sounds amazing 😍 7y
Deborah42 I‘ve been reading so many dark books lately. This one was the little ray of sunshine I didn‘t know I needed. 7y

April Bookstagram Day 15. (2 of 2)
I‘ll admit I‘ve only read this once bec the themes are quite heavy but it‘s one of those books that I‘ve liked so much, I don‘t need to read it lots of times to remember the plot, although opening to Chapter 15 for this post makes me want to read it again.

The background is from Prehistoric Animals in the Modern World by Marco Ferrari and Fulco Pratesi.

April Bookstagram Day 15. (1 of 2)

This is one of my Gay YA hoardings back in the early 2010‘s and I‘m very happy with how this book turned out.

I highly recommend it over the author‘s other books but #tw to abuse and PTSD.

Signs were everywhere. Everywhere and anywhere, Caleb said. That was the problem. They came at any time. And they could be almost anything. Red leaves in the springtime. Pages torn from a library book. All the fish in an aquarium facing the same way. A cracked egg with twin yolks. #signs #prophesies #paranoia #stepfathers
