“Apple currently uses 187 suppliers across 28 countries to make the IPhone” This slim volume in clear language explains why using Tariffs like a blunt instrument is bad for the economy & for businesses large & small. On again, off again creates instability, creates chaos. One of the most obvious problems shows up in our soybean market, China usually buys about 25% of ours . They have decided to source elsewhere. PS ,ultimately,WE pay the tariffs !

AmyG This policy is beyond ignorant. We are a country of morons. 😩 2mo
Leftcoastzen @AmyG well not you or me , but I get what you mean!😄 2mo
Reggie When I was watching all those videos of farmers saying none of their crops is going to be bought by China. Why are we always shit talking the country that buys our crops. And even if we reverse those tariffs they ain‘t coming back. They‘ve signed 20 year contracts with Brazil. And then we sent 20 billion to Argentina whose soybeans also got bought by China. I‘m shocked, so shocked. None of this is making sense to me. The world is so 2mo

Reggie interconnected and we‘re isolating ourselves. I‘m gonna have to read this. (edited) 2mo
Leftcoastzen @Reggie his bailout of Argentina, he wants Milei to stay in power but also some are saying it‘s linked to billionaire investors in Argentina with links to Cheeto . Wouldn‘t surprise me if true. (edited) 2mo
Leftcoastzen @Reggie Cheeto thinks they all can‘t live without trade with the US. The world has moved on . On a happier note:Hi !😁 2mo
Reggie lol, hi! Say hi to the cats for me! 2mo

Lots of good stuff in here but it can be repetitive and it does beat you over the head a bit with statistics and lists of names of people and places. And, oh dear, the misprints. When the maps at the beginning of the book are paired with the wrong captions you know you're in trouble. But I'm still glad I read it because when it decides to be interesting and informative it really is.

A fascinating look at trading voyages via the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean and how the Roman Empire was financed by the import duty on goods (mainly spices, incense, and silks) imported from Arabia, East Africa, and India via Egypt. It's amazing just how much we know.

Roman authorities were well informed about the revenues that sustained their Empire.
