If you like random trivia about entirely unrelated nonsense loosely tied to “writing” via some kind of alcohol or wishful thinking, this is the book for you. If you might enjoy a (too) long diatribe about the differences between diaries and journals, complete with definitions admittedly made up by the author, this book is for you. If you want to actually learn about writing, look elsewhere.

GingerAntics Seriously, this was nearly 5 hours of “all the jobs I‘ve done that I wasn‘t qualified for.” I have no desire to revise HER writing. That is her job. She wasted multiple minutes listing off words for each letter of the alphabet. No idea why. She actually would have preferred a man had told her to smile more. I am seriously embarrassed for this woman. She comes off as a privileged, hateful person in multiple parts of the book. She needs therapy.👇🏻 1d
GingerAntics I listened to this on 3x speed just to get through the madness. The prompts are really generic and other books will get you way further. This needs a PDF with all of the prompts, otherwise it‘s just a wild ride of going back and forth trying to get them from the audio or you‘re just listening like this is a book worth listening to. I will never be reading anything by this author ever again. #RutaSepetys #YouTheStory #audiobook #neveragain 1d
julesG I've read two(?) books by her and was underwhelmed. I'm not going to touch this writing advice one. 1d
GingerAntics @julesG monstrous! I was annoyed most of the time. I don‘t know why I felt like I needed to finish it, but I probably could have bailed and been just fine. Just… ugh. 1d

An old man was misjudged by his monstrous, prejudiced neighbours, and it‘s his fault because he didn‘t tell anyone his story. His neighbours are completely off the hook for their monstrous behaviour toward someone they don‘t know, because the old man didn‘t want to tell his story. Lovely. I can see what kind of person this woman is. 🤮 She is seriously lucky there are only 2 mins left.

Pickpick

I wasn‘t really surpassed to find out just how much of Catherine Read Arnold Williams‘s 19th century book was. It was really obvious from the beginning. I loved that Kate Winkler Dawson brought in a document examiner. It was interesting to see the weird and random ties to the Borden family (and just how messed up that family apparently was - think Lizzy Borden and her alleged ax).

GingerAntics I liked that Dawson pointed out that we need to focus on victims more than the criminals and avoid propaganda when choosing true crime, but unfortunately, this book is mostly about Catherine Read Arnold Williams and far more secondarily about Sarah Maria Cornell the actual victim. #KateWinklerDawson #TheSinnersAllBow #TrueCrime #History #audiobook #VictimBlaming 1mo

I feel like this is as true today as it was in the early 19th century.

“The Requirement... demanded that Indigenous people recognise any King or Queen of Spain AND the Pope as their rulers or [the Spanish] shall make war against [the indigenous people] in all ways and manners... and subject [the indigenous people] to the yoke... make slaves of [the indigenous people]” and any deaths are the indigenous people‘s fault. Never mind, this was read to them in Spanish, a language they‘d never heard before. 🙄 #VictimBlaming
